please help...
have googled this to death but no luck so far...we're looking for a gym in the Embrach/Kloten area - anyone know if one?
Silhouette in Kloten - it opened in January this year - and the membership includes the three Silhouette fitness studios in Zurich. Right now I think they have a special introductory rate - I saw "CHF 69 per month" ads.

It's never crowded when I am there - all new machines - nice classes. They have a sauna and a steam bath.

Schaffhauserstrasse 144
CH - 8302 KLOTEN
Telephone: 044 800 30 00 Fax: 044 800 30 01 Email: kloten@silhouette.ch
The other gym in Kloten is the Halle41

Does anyone know anything about the gym in Thalwil, can't remember the name but it seems to be the only one there.

My German isn't great so I couldn't make out much about the different memberships and I wondered how much cardio equipment it has - not looking for anything fancy.
If you are referring to the Thalwil Sportzentrum (or something that sounds like that), that is a crappy gym. Really. For that price you can get far superior gyms.

Does anyone know what the gym is like at Shilcity? Living in the land of chocolate & cheese means I think I have to start going...

Most places in a city wont have the space for a pool, so scratch Holmes Place off your list if the pool is a requirement. And yes it’s absurdly crowded.
The big Migros place may fir your bill but I’ve never been there.

Holmes Place in Zürich does not offer Hamman or a Pool and it is normally crowded during peak hours.

Fitnesspark does a pretty good job at offering most of the things you are looking for, albeit not all at the same location. For Hamman one needs to go to their Münstergasse location, although that is the only thing I like about that location. The Stockerhof location offers an olympic pool sized combo facility where one can swim, get massaged by jets of water, or lay down inside the pool in 'beds' under which bubbles work to massage the body. There is also inside this pool a jacuzzi. However, as with most Fitnessparks it also gets pretty crowded during peak hours.

The one I go to which seems to still not be packed to the hilt during peak hours is Fitnesspark Puls 5. Worth a visit.

Except for their summer specials where one can join for only 3 months, all Fitnessparks fees are normally for a year paid in advance. More info can be found at their website:

www.fitnesspark.ch

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any other fitness center that offers similar facilities in Zurich as those offered by Fitnesspark. They have sort of cornered the market in the Wellness/Fitness-gym facilities. There are some, like Holmes Place, that try to compete against Fitnesspark. But, from the type of amenities that you mentioned you wish to have, as far as I am aware, only Fitnesspark would do it.

Check out post number 38 (directly above) if you don't mind a bit smaller and going just outside the 'downtown' area. Novafitness.

By the way, don't forget that your employer and/or Krankenkasse will pay a part of your fitness abonement.
Just spoke to mine and it isnt covered in the Obligatorische versicherung, you must have extra cover.

Why would the employer pay it??? Sure only if you had to have it because of the job? or illness?

There is a Migros fitnesspark off Niederdorf somewhere, but it might be a ladies venue...

Definitely a nice place, good machines and free weights, but my wife didn't like their classes.

Just be careful, if you do not cancel your membership 2 months before it expires it automatically renews.

Pretty rude about it too.

Also very little English spoken, that is normal for Buelach though.

Sure it is 160 chf a month. They ask for a membership fee. But we got around it with A LOT of negotiating.
My wife tells me that is not that great. I go to the Migros in Stockerstrasse, I actually prefer it, just because I do weights and I have a salt water pool, sauna and stuff.
But her gym is better for yoga, classes, less "swiss" like, more like everywhere else.
BTW, have someone noticed how they have no "gym manners" here. Example, in the US if you are using a machine and someone is waiting, then you do one set, the other person does one set, here NEVER, its not like is freak science, its common sensce, (I guess )
