Re: How often will you go skiing or snowboarding?

ybrig is a pain in the ass to get to. the postbus ride is spoiling it for me.
the area itself is ok, pistes were not so good prepared the other day i was there. and it was one of the first WE's with propper snow, so a blast about people and waiting time at the lift.

So 4" more snow and it will be open on the weekend, bring on the night skiing.

Thinking of Hoch-Ybrig this weekend as an alternative to Flumserberg..anyone got any opinions, I have been to neither of them.
as flow23 said, its a bit easier to get to flumserberg by public transport... unterterzen is the stop where you get off if i recall correctly. if you have been to neither, i would check out flumserberg first, its pretty cool.

havent decided if im going myself yet.

i would guess however that avalanche risk will be fairly high at the weekend... be careful.

Re: How often will you go skiing or snowboarding?

its easy as checkers to get to the resort. you fall out of the train in unterterzen and right into the gondola. and, best of all, if you want to go home, you can do it at any possible time. every 30min a train is going back to zürich. and you can go to ot at any time because a train leaves every hour from zürich.

my Gf told me about stoos, mythenregion. has anyone been there?

Re: How often will you go skiing or snowboarding?

another resort in quick reach is andermatt. i was there only once. as far as i can tell there is one big disadvantage: the gotthard train passes the whole area on the foot of the hills and if you want to leave andermatt for disentis or sedrun, you have to wait until the shitty train comes which was at that weekend one per hour. but maybe i have checked things wrong and there are gondolas, lifts etc.?!

If you're keen on Davos & Flims/Laax....its also worth an extra half hour on the slopes.
how do you get there? 2.5 h train-bus ride to me is too much to make the effort and something out of the day...?

Re: How often will you go skiing or snowboarding?

no, davos is easy, its 2 hours and 20 minutes from zurich, one change of train at landquart.... and well worth a visit... klosters is just a stop before davos.... at davos there are two stops, 1) dorf and 2) platz. i think it is platz that has a nice train all the way to the top of the mountain which is very fast. you can ski from there to klosters.

been there loads of times for day trips. its great! train at 7.30am, get back around 7pm.

laax is 2 hrs 10 from zurich, at least where i go to which is normally laax murschetg, where the riders palace hotel is. that however is a train followed by a bus... i dont like bus rides so much. been there lots of times too but normally when im staying overnight at the riders palace.

If I had lived here all my life the snow covered mountains probably wouldn't appeal so much. I spent 28 years in Scotland and never took up hill-walking or fishing, and my love-affair with golf never got past the first couple of dates.
I went skiing as often as possible when I lived in Switzerland - two seasons ago that meant I went every weekend from Dec to Feb until the weather stopped me in March. Then started again in the slush in April

I meant to get back last year for a few weekends but only ended up doing one day when I did visit as I was so out of shape and knackered.

I'm currently trying to get back in some sort of shape so as to enjoy some skiing soon but it's not easy when you're living in Ireland.....

My daytrip reccs: By train, beginner : Flumserberg; intermediate Davos Jakobshorn or Parsenn.

By car Laax or Rotterdam or anywhere, Liverpool or Rome.

I have a car which I barely drive at all for 8 months of the year which means Laax is about one hour fifteen away and Davos typically a half hour longer than that.

As someone else mentions, you can take the train to Davos and assuming there's enough snow, at the end of the day you can board part of your way home, which is undeniably cool. The run is about 12km long and descends over 2000m.

Re: How often will you go skiing or snowboarding?

i really hate the busride from chur to laax! i mean, there is the express bus going straight and the other regular postbus is stopping at each milk jug. so its to figure out what time to arrive to get the express one. mhm.
kev, davos is reachable just by train? no bus? that would be nice. i mean, 7.30 am leaving and 7pm return is perfect, true.

DeadLast,

Maybe I'm just exceptionally juvenille, but the location of the very last TV-WEATHER-IMAGE on that page was so unexpected that I laughed suddenly and sprayed coffee all over my PC monitor!

Thanks for the mid-morning pick-me-up!!!

Re: How often will you go skiing or snowboarding?

Davos is actually opening the Jakobshorn tomorrow, and the Parsenn on Saturday.

I am taking a day off work to celebrate and get the first boarding in. Ludicrously excited.

"Additional remarks:
Saisonstart: Jakobshorn: 16.11.2007 Parsenn Davos: 17./18.11.2007, dann ab 24.11.2007 täglich offen"

seems like davos is indeed open from this weekend but im not quite sure i wanna go that far so early in the season.... hmmm, thinking.
