Which ski-pass?

I'm toying with getting a season pass this year- but I'm not sure which one to get.

I know you can buy a season ticket for a particular mountain, and you can also get tickets like Meilenweiss (www.meilenweiss.com) which covers some of the smaller mountains close to Zurich. Meilenweiss doesn't cover the Graubunden mountains though, which is where I tend to spend most of the winter. I also like the idea of not being tied to one specific mountain- so hopefully there are other tickets out there that don't confine you to a single resort.

Are there any other multi-mountain passes out there that I should be considering? Realistically I will be staying mostly on the east side of Switzerland.

TIA.

Somebody was telling me there was a pass for all the resorts in central Switzerland, can't remember the name of it though. I think it was something simple like "zentralpasse", and you buy it from any of the participating resorts.

I'm sure someone here knows the one I mean!

Re: Which ski-pass?

I've found three different passes for central Switzerland.

The Swiss Knife Valley Pass
The Schneepass Zentralschweiz
The Schneepass Meilen

You'll find them listed here: http://flash.swissknifevalley.ch/

I've never used any of them because I just don't trust the snow situation around here. We had very little snow in the late 90's. Much more snow from 2000 - 2006 and bad conditions last year. It's almost a bit like gambling.

Looking forward to reading other opinions and experiences!

There's a Central Switzerland pass which covers Andermatt, Engelberg and lots of smaller resorts. It costs 999 CHF so you need to be skiing 16-20 days at the major resorts at weekends to get your money back. There is a 5% reduction if buying before 30.11.07.

I'm not sure it's worth it because if you want to ski other resorts then it's going to add up. But I suppose it also depends how much you can ski in mid-week or both weekend days.

Re: Which ski-pass?

If its your first Year here, isnt it better to check out different places to see where you like it the best? This is my first year here and i am planning in going to a lot of places. I heard that it can be different conditions like snow and weather, on the same day. So maybe its more interesting to check the web cams in the morning and go for the best resort?
But next year i will also try to get a pass and a cabin somewhere... just have to look for the right place

good luck and a lot of powder!!!

Re: Which ski-pass?

This is my first year here and we live inthe Valais near Zermatt where we'll probably do most of our skiing .Does anyone have any advice on the best deals on ski passes for this area. The cost of a full season pass seems high as we will probably end up skiing for around 20 or so days. Can you buy passes which don't insist you use then on consecutive days? Any advice most welcome. Cheers Hopeful

Might be being a bit lazy here, but just wondering if anyone has done a cost analysis, does anyone know how this deal compares the snow'n'rail deals?

My friend got the Schneepass Zentralschweiz, but then she has a GA. Does it work out cheaper to get the Snow'n'Rail (with 1/2 tax) or shell out for the Zentral Passe and get the trains seperately?

You should be able to get a pass for the Zermatt region for a lower price as you are a resident. Try going to the relevant bureau & take along your Auslander Ausweiss which shows that you are local.

For example, I have a season pass for Adelboden-Lenk-Metch (Bernese Oberland), costs me 800chf for the year. Good luck.

Just had a quick look at the figures and it looks to be a little cheaper to use Snow'n'Rail if you're going around twenty times, from Luzern, and going to the local resorts of Engelberg, Melchsee-Frutt or Andermatt (Not so local by train). Go any more times than that and the Zentralpasse starts to look cheaper.

EDIT : That's considering you have the 1/2 Tax! Didn't work it out with full.

Thanks for this .Unfortunately we haven't yet got residency as still tied to job (Part Time ) in Uk .Have got a Halb -tax though. What are the snow& Rail deals people mention? Are they relevant ? Or do we just have to buy separate passes each time we are going skiing? I heard that there are passes which don't require you to ski on consecutive days but haven't tracked them down yet .Any suggestions? Cheers Hopeful.
