Does anyone know the region around Fieschalp (and Bettmeralp). We will go skiiing for the first time ever, so will take lessons for beginners.
Niki said it is often no use getting a skipass when just learning, so is this the case too around Fiesch/Bettmeralp? It would make >200 CHF difference for us, so I am keen to find out.

I cant work out from the website if this is planned maintenance or due to today's weather. Any one who can confirm things will be back to normal tomorrow? | | | | | At Flumserberg how do you get over from Unterterzen to Tannenboden and the ski school office? All of the instructions on the flums website seem to point towards going from Untererzen, and then the "Sports Taxi" from Flums-Bergheim to Tannenboden.
Is there a better way to get there? I will be starting lessons probably in Tannenboden and hiring gear there, so need to get there rather than anywhere else.

check out this map http://www.flumserberg.ch/NR/rdonlyr...ifprospekt.pdf
Look at the A2 lift - this is the gondola from Unterterzen train station

| | | Re: Ski resort guide / review 07/08 | Quote: | | | | | I was there (Lenzerheide) last weekend.
The snow conditions were quite good. The resort itself has a few beginner slopes along with a very good network of blues further up on the mountain. There is a ski/snowboard school and rental center right by the Fadail lift which is where I usually park when I go up there.
Personally I find Lenzerheide one of the best resorts in CH. The day pass is expensive enough compared to some of the smaller areas (57CHF high season as far as I remember), but you get a huge area for your money. The resort never seems crowded, and I have rarely had to cue for lifts there. By contrast any time I have been to Flumserberg I have spent more time queuing then riding! There is a good choice of restaurants spread around the mountain in Lenzerheide and the prices for all that I have used so far have been reasonable.
My personal advice is if you are a beginner stay away from the Rothorn side. There are some great blue pistes in the Statzerhorn area once you have gained enough confidence to leave the smaller pull lift pistes at the bottom of the mountain.
Hope this helps a little. | | | | | Hi Eire,
I found all your information about Lenzerheide very useful. Thanks. Just had a couple of questions. Must I book the ski lessons (instructor) prior to going there? If yes would u remember the name of the ski rental/school near the Fadial lift? Thanks.

Trying to find the best resort for after ski and night life in German speaking Switzerland. I know many places for excellent skiing but want some off snow fun as well!
Opinions anyone?

We went to Saas-Fee (German speaking) last weekend and loved it. Small, beautiful village, great skiing (they had had 4 feet of snow the previous weekend) and fun apres and nightlife. Somehow wound up being out until 3 even after skiing all day, still have no idea how it happened.
Its about 3 hours (train to Visp then a bus) but its well worth it for a weekend.

As far as I know you will probably be able to just drop in and get a lesson. However to be sure I would book in advance. Here is a list of ski and snowboard schools in Lenzerheide. I'm pretty sure the one at the Fadail lift is called Skischule Nova.

Hi all, I'm going to Verbier Next week for 5 days Skiing, Wednesday to Sunday and looking for advice on the best runs.
I'm a little rusty still so would start with a Blue run for an hour or two or longer *!%* then move up to reds and see how I progress.
Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone would like to meet up, there I will be on my own and it would be good to have a Ski buddy.

Going to Flums tomorrow, so will review on Monday from a beginners perspective. Anyway, before I go, does anyone know if there are lockers at Tannenboden area? We will be renting equipment there so need to dump our normal shoes and stuff.
I'm guessing if there are lockers I'll need lots of change.

I have not seen Ibergeregg mentioned yet. Little bit out of the way on the side of Hoch Ybrig.
Negatives - Only 1400 Meters and only T Bars.
Positives - It is cheap especially if you are a learning family, (33 Chf for the 8 lifts or 20 Chf if you are on learning slopes, 24 and 14 Chf for kids) , very quiet not the usual Flumserberg 20 min wait, Parking beside the learning slope.
Very scenic through the trees in places.
Was there 2nd Jan best snow I have seen for a while went 2 weeks ago it was a little soft.
I do use Flumserberg or Flims when Ibergeregg is closed.

Malbun, Liechtenstein http://www.tourismus.li/en/navpage-WinterLI.html
is often where I take people new to skiing, although there are 3 nice ski tours for those with more experience. I like it because it's small, friendly, quiet, even on weekends and beginners can ride chair lifts rather than spending all day on drag lifts. As it nestles in a cold bowl in the mountains it gets pretty good snow too.
Other stats; 5 lifts (2 easy drags suitable for quite small children and the rest is blue or red)
2 sledging runs
nice X-country (can't remember how many kms, but enough to make it worthwhile)
Approx. 1hr 20 from Zurich by car, public transport would be a train and bus, but no doubt they connect nicely.
and lots of winter walking or snow shoeing for the non skiers

Did anyone else go to Flumserberg today? any idea why it was so busy? we queued for 45 minutes to get on the gondola down to Unterterzen, crazy!

DC | | | | | Yeah we wished we'd headed that way when we were turned back at flums - they weren't letting any cars up after 10.15am this morning as all car parks were full
We went to Ibergergg in Dec, stunning location and scenery but we are beginners, not yet ready for the big runs there but a bit more advanced for the small run so decided against going until we can tackle the longer runs

This wasn't in Switzerland but I thought I'd give my input anyway. Today I went snowboarding at Feldberg im Schwarzwald. It's only about 50km from where I live so I figured I'd give it a shot.
Has anyone else been there? I was there for 6 hours and didn't enjoy myself until the last hour when I found a small kicker a bit off piste which I hit and hiked several times. Lots of tbars and Deutsche Schlager. The runs were all fairly short and there didn't seem to be much variety in the terrain.
Anyway I won't be going back anytime soon. Though it could be fun on a weekday with a fresh dump of snow. *shrug

im glad i did not go. | | | | | erm when we left Zurich yesterday morning it was rather foggy so can't comment on the weather here, I have also been to Flumserberg on several occasions in great 'awesome' weather but never experienced it as busy as yesterday? there were lots of skiers dressed up as clowns etc... so I was wondering if maybe there was some event on
