Hi ...

Can anyone recommend some good modern dance classes in Zurich - hip-hop, jazz etc.. something that will also improve fitness and doesn't require a partner.

I'm thinking of trying out migros and arena ... but if someone could give a good recommendation, that would be great. It would have to be classes that I can take after work and preferably not on weekends.

I know they have hip-hopy classes at the Holmes Place in Jelmoli (have never attended them personally) but you could maybe give it a try.

I have personally tried out Modern Dance classes in Holmes place Zurich and i would say there are different classes taught by different instructors.. which I enjoyed majority of the classes many times..

In Holmes place.. my fav is the Latin workout where the Brazilian instructor will use Latin steps as work out.. check that out :-)

Activfit and Migros also offer some cool Aerodance lessons. You just have to figure out which instructor you like and kind of stalk him/her to the different clubs

I have been interested in the same thing, and a friend suggested that I check out the Jazz class on Tuesday evenings at arena225.ch 18:15 - 19:30 with Sylvia. My friend said she's really good and that it's a fun class. If you plan to go, send me a PM and maybe I can meet you there.

The ASVZ (university of Zürich sport facilities) also have good modern jazz lessons. It's Thursday night at 19.30 in the Polyterrasse, you have to register in the ASVZ (300 CHF for "alumni", meaning anyone with a university degree) and they you can go to all their fitness, sport and dance classes during 12 months.

They also have ragga, african dance, aerobic, latin aerobic, and... ballet.

I did this jazz class last night and it was really fun! It had been a loooong time since I'd done any kind of dance class but it was no problem. And she did most of it in English so that made it easier than otherwise
They also have a lot of other dance classes, including hip hop, flamenco, etc etc. A fun way to spend a cold, dark evening!
