I am thinking of going to Austria for a snowboarding weekend trip. Does anyone know a good ski resort for a beginner that is within 3-4 hour drive from lugano?
A friend suggested Solden but it is a bit too far to drive for a weekend trip.
I looked online and found Lech/Zurs to be one of the closest ski resorts with many blue runs. Has anyone been there and recommend it? I read reviews and said it's a very exclusive resort (not sure if that's a positive or negative).

Any suggestions?!!?
Thanks in advance!!!
Been to Solden and Mayrhofen for Snowboarding, both while being a relative beginner, both were fine. No idea how far Mayrhofen is to drive from Lugano though.
yea, we heard solden was a great place for beginners with a great apres ski...but it is a bit far, at least 4.5 hours to drive there.. =(
right now, we are considering Lech as I saw a lot of blue runs...but worried about it's exclusivity and all the reviews says it's expensive (true or false?)
btw: i just love how fast people reply on this forum!!!! thanks
Lech is very small, and you will find that many places will only take week long bookings. All three resorts are easily accessible, so I would suggest looking at Zurs, Lech and St Anton and seeing what you come up with.
Skiing is an expensive sport full stop, and more so if you do not plan far ahead.

Sölden is great but why Austria? It seems from Lugano every ski resort in Switzerland or Italy is much closer as this is only a weekend trip? Looking at a map this seems kind of crazy. I'm quite envious how close a place like St. Moritz is from Lugano and they have a youth hostel so it's not necessarily expensive. And I bet the Ticinesi don't go even that far for skiing/snowboarding as there are places like Nara/Leontica
we've been to the near by ski resorts for day trips and wanted to try to scene in Austria...but you are right, it def makes more sense to stay in Switzerland.
We couldn't find a hotel in Austria so last minute but was lucky enough to find one in Zermatt!!!! whoopee, can't wait to snowboard around the matterhorn!! = )
thanks for the website btw, we will plan to go there next!!
