| | | [Oerlikon (ZH) or nearby]Anyone swimming?
I've been out of the water for almost four years ( ), but if anyone is interested in a swim buddy, let me know! I used to swim competitively, so I like to think that I'll shortly be swimming respectable distances again, but for now I just need some motivation and moral support!
Cheers, Erin

Hey Erin, I am planning on swimming too... especially if I sign up for the triathlon I've been thinking about (my husband did the Inferno last year and really enjoyed it, so I've been trying to decide whether to try it myself, although I'm kinda nervous about it!).
I'm in Rüschlikon so maybe we could find a place to meet halfway (starting in April after our visitors are gone). I know I could definitely use the motivation as well!

Hey Erin
I am in Oerlikon and would love to join. I am not a very good swimmer yet, but have, as the person above, signed up for the Zueri triathlon in July. I would love to fix a date once a week. I am 28, female, speak English and German, even French if I have to :-).
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Cheers, Arina

Awesome! I'll post this publicly so anyone feeling like a swim can drop in. When would you prefer to swim? I'm mostly free in the evenings and I could be convinced to swim in the mornings, ie 7:30, 8 am. It would be great to get an EF swim group together...it would help some of us motivate to know others are going to be there!
Cheers, Erin
PS- For any undecided swimmers out there, the Oerlikon pool is GORGEOUS!

Great. I could free up the following times:
- Monday morning early
- Thursday after 4:30 pm
- Friday morning early or
- Friday late afternoon, before 7 pm
I hope we'll find a suitable time.
Cheers, Arina

Being a diver and have trained with mask and snorkel etc; seen a lot of what swims around under the surface i can say that oerlikon is the cleanest indoor pool in zürich. City hallenbad is a bit to argressive for my taste plus too many people.

Cool to see this post here. I even signed up for the community to reply:-)
I just moved to Oerlikon 4 weeks ago and one of the reasons was the hallendbad oerlikon(i know a little crazy, but also hard to find s.th. at all). I'm out of water for a while as well as I think I was just to lazy and New York Sports Club's Pools are not really motivating. Would like to get in shape for another olympic distance triathlon again(did one in Hamburg 2005). did you guys agree on a time when u meet up? would love to join and would be grateful if u could let me know when u do ur laps:-)
cheers markus

Hi all,
How does this Friday at 8 am sound? This week I can do earlier or later...I can always do earlier but usually not later! I'm also game for swimming in the evenings, on the weekends...you name it!

Friday sounds good for me, but if we could start @7.30 that would be great, since my class at the uni starts @ 9 ... and the Swiss don't like when u come late:-) Weekend in the evening would be good as well. I could start to join next weekend for that, because I'm out of town this we.
Looking forward to it.
cheers
Markus

For any swimmers in the Oerlikon area, there will be at least three of us meeting tomorrow at the entrance of the Oerlikon pool at ~7:30 am. Sounds like we're all lapsed former swimmers, so don't be shy if you're not in top swim-shape! Hope to see you there!

I remember reading something about tickets and early morning....trying to remember...it cenrtainly deterred me when I was planning to go there early once.... Maybe the ticket office is closed, so you may need an advance ticket. It may say on the website...

Just in case there's a couple more crazy people out there, we're meeting Mondays and Fridays at the Oerlikon pool at 7 AM (yep, AM).
If you're not so inclined toward early morning exertions, I'm also game for swimming an evening or two a week...lemme know!

| | | Re: Swimming clubs in Zurich??
Hey everyone,
I'm a student at ETHZ and moved here from UK recently.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any swimming clubs in Zurich one could join for training and stuff? I used to swim competitively ages ago but now would just like to get back into a team/training if possible.
Any help on the same would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi Milleniumrider et al,
I have a sinking feeling that the cycling season is coming to an end soon (perhaps not SO soon, but I feel those delightfully sunny days shrinking into a memory... ), so I'll be looking to get back into the water before long.
I would like to find somebody to train with on a regular basis, preferably at the Oerlikon pool. I am an ex-competitive swimmer and would love to swim on a team again, but it'll probably be a month or two before I'm back in that sort of shape. Anyone else interested in doing time trials, etc?? It's fuuuuuuuuun!

| | | Oerlikon (ZH): The Pool
Hey Erin!
I'm still slow, but I can hold the stop watch :-). What days are you thinking of going? My timetable's changed, so mornings are no longer good for me, but I could do Monday evenings.
Cheers,
Arina

Hi swimming adepts,
I am new to this forum. I have been swimming on national and European level before I decided that combining studies and serious sports is just too much in the Netherlands. So I quit. Ever since, I have tried a few times to pick up swimming, but swimming alone is not the most exciting thing to do.
So Erin, I am interested to meet up for swimming as it's just not as easy to give up after 2K.
I have tried to swim in Oerlikon, mostly between 7 and 8, but in the tempo lanes, there seem to be some people that definitely don't belong there, but a few lanes further. (Besides the fact that many just push off the wall, just before I'd like to make a turn, while there would be plenty of space behind me). So perhaps if it's a few of us, things get streamlined a bit more.
I'm not sure how often you'd like to team up, but twice a week would definitely be feasible.
