Renting a bike in Zurich?

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone knew of a bike rental in Zurich?

I know of Zuerirollt, but it runs from May till October (Maybe with good reason?)

Thanks!

You can rent a bicycle at Zurich main station or at many other sbb stations in Switzerland.

I believe there's a place in Zurich where you can rent a bike for free after leaving a deposit (sorry, I don't know where it is). I'm sure they bikes are quite basic though, and the ones from the train station would probably be more suitable if you want to do a reasonable amount of riding.

It's worth a try to ask at a bicycle repair shop. Mine rents a couple of unusual bicycles (battery driven, tandem...) but probably would rent a normal bicycle too: Velorei

Two other bicycle shops rent according to their tel.search entry: The Bike Store and Velo Zürich.

Re: Renting a bike in Zurich?

Would anyone know where this place might be located and/or what it's called? Basic would suit me just right. I'm in Zurich for a few months for work and would rather bike around town rather than take the trams.

Thanks.

Marat

I believe the only free bike rentals are the ones offered by the ZVV (Zuerirollt), however, you have to return the bike at the end of the day usually. I am not aware that they allow you to keep the bike for unlimited period because it is meant as a transportation/service option.

Your best bet would probably be to buy a cheap bike and sell it when you leave, in my opinion. A several month rental will probably cost you more than buying and selling. Or maybe someone here has a used bike that they are willing to rent for a small fee and deposit.

Not sure if that would be cost effective (rental vs buying that is), since you want long term... Zuerirollt might be an option if you are close to a renting point, but a used basic bike should go for about 200 CHF.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I'll try to pick up a used bike.

Is the bike market that someone else mentioned my best bet for a cheap commuter bike?
