Re: Sunday Road Biking Ride (13-April) - Any takers?

Souvlaki-

You can buy a bike map of the Zurich region (or any other canton) at the Post or any book store or bike shop. I'm a big fan of the Greifensee loop (route 29, mostly) for a quick ride; cycling around one side of the Greifensee and then dropping down toward Rapperswil or wherever along the eastern side of Zurichsee (not such a big fan of the shore route on the west side, as it's all city); taking the 29 up to the 5 and riding in either direction; taking any number of smaller routes up to the 2 and riding in either direction...there's lots of great options!

Have fun!

Erin

Hi everyone,
I am training for Ironman Lake Placid on July 20th and wondering if anyone might want to join me for a long ride this Sunday. I am looking to do around 80 miles (or ~128km for you metric people), but I am happy to have company for ANY portion of the ride. If you want to do less, I can add on. I know the weather might not be ideal, but I was out on this past Sunday and is really wasnt that bad. Really. I live in Zurich, but will travel if you are not in Zurich.

I would like to throw some hills in the mix but I really dont have a preference for terrain. My avg pace (depending on terrain) would be around 16-17 mph (27-28 kmh).
Have a good ride? You probably already started. I brutalized my legs yesterday so probably just have a rest day ride today and take in a bit of the Paris Roubaix route. Have fun and hope to catch up with you, literally sometime on a ride.

Everyone,
I didn't have internet access all weekend in my apartment (grrr!), so I"m sorry I couldnt post an update. I had a great ride yesterday to Zug and Einsiedeln, and the weather was a nice surprise!

In the future I will post rides I'm doing and hopefully we can meet up.

Buckkitty are you doing a similar ride(s) this weekend?

I am planning on using the forecasted warm weather to do a 3-5 hour solid training ride on each of Saturday and Sunday in the general vicinity you mentioned above, starting from Zurich (Thalwil-Horgen), preferrably starting at 9 or 10 am.

The more climbing the merrier, although the snow of the last few days may preclude going higher than around 1000m

I would love to! BUT I may be having a visitor this weekend, so biking may not fit in on the agenda

The ride I did on Saturday was A LOT of climbing! But I would really love to do it again, as the views were breathtaking - I still can't get over how beautiful it is.

I'll let you know if I can sneak out for a ride this weekend

Mblume,

I may be up for a ride one or both days. I am getting seriously worried about my fitness level and form this year after a soul destroying ride on Saturday, old ladies were catching me on their city bikes....

I would like to try to Sattelegg but in fairness I haven't actually haven't done a climb over 300 meters yet so that might be pushing it. But I have alot of work to do over the next month or so.
