| | | Zurich Road Biking Ride
I will be heading out this sunday (4/20) on a 4.5-5 hr ride. Mblume has expressed interested and we are thinking of heading out from a location on the West side of the lake and head to Zug/Goldau/Einsiedeln/etc starting around 9 or 10am. avg pace around 16-17 mph.
B.Y.O food, bars, gels, drinks, spare tubes, tools to change a flat, properly working bike, etc. I prefer not to stop much save for the occasional refueling, nature calling, and photo op (sorry, I can't help myself there )
Let me know if you're interested.
Cheers,

I suggest meeting at 9:30 am at the Thalwil train station on the road beneath (lake side) of the train station?

Perfect. I hope the marathon on Sunday won't cause a problem. I imagine getting out of the city on a bike should be ok.

Really wish I could join you but can't go on Sunday...
If you're looking for a "warm-up" ride on Saturday afternoon, I'm planning to ride for a couple hours from Rueschlikon, weather permitting (since I finally got the ok from the doc about my ankle, yahoo!) |

You're killing me here. I would join you, but there is this big body of water between us. Still working on fixing that. I just had what was (hopefully) my last interview this morning with a company in Zurich. Keeping my fingers crossed. If it happens, I will first bring my bike, then secondary things such as clothes, etc...
--Somewhat off topic--
MBlume, I will be riding Sunday, however. You may recognize... http://tourofhermann.blogspot.com/ The road calendar in Missouri is pretty full this year.
Oh, and a little news from home: we had a 5.4 magnitude earthquake this morning. See stltoday.com

I may join you on Sunday but I have to see how I am feeling, feeling a bit flu-like tonight (and a bit low on energy all week) so need to see how I feel and whether I go do a big ride on Sunday. Will let you know tomorrow or just show up on sunday.
Hillseeker - assuming I feel well tomorrow I am up for a shorter 'testing' ride if you like. I suppose i can't tempt you to this side of the lake though?

Got my road bike 2 days ago and am trying to get to grips with it. Climbs are a bit of a problem at the moment though as it didn't come with a compact like it thought it would.

I can deal with the second as I am no marco pantani right now. | | | | | Can do climbs, just not sure to what extent. I climbed Pfanensteil the other night and it worked, I just wanted a lower gear. Thinking about testing my legs on bachtel one of these days. I'll make it up, its just a matter of how long it will take. This may not necessarily related to the crankset though, probably at least as much to do with the fact that I am shockingly unfit.
I have to go and do some domestic type stuff this morning, and then I'll check back here before I get to go on the bike. If you post when and where you are leaving I'll see if I can get there. I have no idea how long I'll be out and about this morning.

I am thinking of doing Pfannensteil - not sure which way right now and from there can decide.

my test ride went well today and feel my energy has returned so assuming I feel good in the morning I plan on making it as well. So will see you at 9:30 if I don't make it by then that means I have abandoned and just go ahead.

I do want to check it out over there sometime though. Maybe on a Thurs eve if we can get a group ride put together for that...
Have a great ride tomorrow you all !

Just bumping this up as I prepare myself for this morning.
Just as small point, might be better next time to post these things on the calendar as an event, so that is more prominent and people can RSVP.

My morning of domestic duties turned into an all day Ikea marathon
Maybe next time!

Thanks for the ride yesterday. I have added link of my garmin file but the total elevation is messed up, I know we didn't climb 2000 meters, it just felt like it to me. http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/i...kValue=5448108 |

Great ride guys... had a good ride and enjoyed meeting you all. Look forward to the next one and maybe getting a few more in the group.
2000m is pretty optimistic, my Polar has us at 97km and 1250m total climbing on the Thalwil station round trip. Would say the round trip was closer to 95km as wireless interference from the trainlines next to lake Zug was doubling my speed there. | | This user would like to thank litespeed for this useful post: | |

yes that was my statistics on the device (not including the ride back to Zurich) until the Motion based software decided to autocorrect and butchered the elevation stats somehow.

Go to the activity dashboard and click "activity options" and then de-select the checkbox for gravity.
To turn it off for all future activities, click "account" then "preferences" and finally "tune up"
The barometric data is much more accurate than the topo data.
Looks like a nice ride although that elevation chart scares me!
