[Zurich area] Running in Zurich (West/Silver Coast)

Dudes & Dudettes,

After a successful season training for the Zurich marathon, (all of our group finished strong on Sunday. Did you see the Silver Coast Runners?) We're going to try to start up another season for the fall marathons. We generally meet Saturdays at 8:00 am at the Horgen Bahnhof for our long runs, although we might go a little earlier in the summer. We train with a run/walk method that helps you to recover quicker and have a life while training for a marathon. Distance varies, but the terrain is usually pretty flat.

Please send me a private message if you are interested in joining us or would like more information. I generally send out a weekly e-mail to the group as for time, place and distance.

Also, this might be a good string for folks who work or live on the Silver Coast to find someone or somewhere to run. Just a thought.

Best bet is to enter each event in the Calendar at least 1 week in advance , and people can choose to RSVP (then you know who is turning up!)

You might want to provide a bit more detail when posting fitness related events... for group running I would suggest including at least distance, min. pace, terrain (flat, hilly) , and if its fair weather only.

Re: [Zurich area] Running in Zurich (West/Silver Coast)

Hi, I'd really like to join your group. I live in Berlin, but I'm quite often in Zuerich since my boyfriend lives there. I did two half-marathons last year and now I'm up to 1h every second day. So am I good enough to join you?

The next time that I'm in Zuerich will be 06.06.08. So please let me know what your plans are by then and if I would fit in at all.
Thank you and have a nice weekend.
Devi

Re: [Zurich area] Running in Zurich (West/Silver Coast)

Hello

I'm soon to move to Zurich from Australia. I run a bit, not competively, but I do about 2 half marathons a year, and am hoping to run my first marathon in 2009.

Does anyone know of any running groups around etc?

Any help appreciated.

Mel

Re: [Zurich area] Running in Zurich (West/Silver Coast)

Our group is still running strong every week. You are more than welcome to join us on Saturday mornings at 8:00 am from the Horgen Bahnhof. At the Zurich marathon last spring we had 6 folks finish their very first marathon in less than 5 hours. Depends on what area you are living, I guess, whether our group would suit you.

Thanks for the information. I am not sure yet where I will be living, but should know more in a week. I'm hoping to do my first marathon under 4 hours so your group sounds great! Does your group do any mid week runs other than the Saturdays?

The group's main focus is the weekend run. There are a couple of smaller (even more informal) groups that meet during the week: one at 9:00 am at Au Bahnhof for a very easy run along the lake and another on Horgenberg on Monday mornings. Attendance will probably be limited over the summer but will crank back up in the fall.

Two other groups in the Zurich area (and mentioned in other running strings) are the Zurich Hashers and the b.i.t./CH runners. Their web sites are... http://www.zh3.ch/ and http://bitch.harrier.ch/

I am really keen to join you, and was looking forward to it. Unfortunately this house hunting has to come first though. I have some more places to see on Saturday morning so I wont be able to make it this saturday. But i look forward to joining you soon.

Re: [Zurich area] Running in Zurich (West/Silver Coast)

I joined this group for a Saturday morning run last week.

Inspiration was two-fold: (1) The NYC marathon took place this past week and probably even more of a driver was (2) completion of Murakami's book on running.

It's a lovely way to start off the weekend bright and early. Will be back tomorrow - 8 AM @ Horgen HB.

Re: [Zurich area] Running in Zurich (West/Silver Coast)

Hi guys,

I'm moving to Zurich in June having lived in London for 2.5yrs (and grew up in Dublin) and am a keen runner. I've run the Dublin marathon twice and will be competing again this year in late October so I'm so happy to have found a running group to do the long runs with.

I will be in touch when I hit Zurich!!

Happy running!

Yvonne

Hi
I recently moved to Zurich for work and I am looking for some running partners. I graduated from college in 2008 and ran for the university of michigan. I am also interested in doing some races in and around the area. Can anyone offer advice?

Check out the Wednesday evening jogging group on the EF Calendar section. We're meeting at Enge train station this Wednesday (October 07) at 18:30.

Hope to see you there!

And here's a useful collection of races/advanced runners in this part of the world.

I would be happy to have a running partner myself, to do some methodical training once a week or so (on the track, interval training etc.) for next year;

but I am an ultra-slow runner just aiming to be a respectable finisher let's check out this Wednesday if we are compatible

TT, I'm now going once a week on this track, doing intervals. At the moment, Monday evenings 7:30pm seem to work fine for me. Care to join?

Brilliant!

Btw will this be the ASVZ track near the Zoo? Just for general interest, is it open to the non-ETH public also?

Hey Sylvain,
Is that the floodlight track by the Sihl?
I too would be interested as I seem to be training for another marathon
Cheers
Mike

Yes indeed, that's the one. I meant to post this link to the map... Sorry for the confusion. The track is open to the public (apparently...).

Do come along! The more the merrier
