Hi All - my mountain bike has just arrived and I'm excited to get out and ride. I've searched and searched but am having trouble finding a place near Bern to ride tomorrow. Any ideas would be extremely helpful!

Get onto www.veloland.ch for all the details of the national cycling routes. I was out that way yesterday and noticed that there is some MTB trails. Maybe not directly in Bern but from Biel there are some trails.

Try here, its great fun.

Try www.traildevils.ch or go to the Gurten trail. That is probably the closest trail to Bern. Open everyday.

There's also a new practice / training pump track in the Bremgartenwald...

The Gurten trail is good a the moment. I rode it yesterday. It was a little damp in places but dried up nicely during the day. I'll probably be there one of the days over the weekend too.

There is only one problem with the Gurten trail which hasn't been advertised much yet. NAILS. Some complete fiend is throwing nails on the trail, especially at the crossing points by the roads. Very deadly. At the moment, the trailnet people sweep the trail on weekends because the nails are showing up mainly on Saturdays and Sundays. They are also planning out interesting ways of catching the guy.
If anyone sees nails or catches a nail in their tyre (hopefully not, though there was an accident last weekend because of that), please let me know. I'll report it to the trailnet guys. They are trying to work out somekind of plan and need to know from riders when they spot nails.

It's really sad because it's such a cool trail.
