Re: [Affoltern am Albis, ZH]Snowboard Rental

I'd just like to pass on a tip to anyone who's wanting to hire skis/boots/poles for the season......at a very reasonable price.
We took a trip to Laufen yesterday to www.sportshopkarrer.ch and got a fantastic deal. The staff were really helpful and friendly and most of them spoke English.

It cost us less to hire the whole lot from them for BOTH of us (for the season) than it would have cost for ONE of us at Intersport!

We took our car, but for anyone who doesn't have a car.......the shop's about 100yds from the railway station.
(One tip though......don't go on a Saturday if you can help it, it was packed with families all wanting to get kitted out.)

Happy skiing!

Re: Ski and Snowboard hire [season/short-term]

I would always recommend renting from a location that is convenient, especially if you have problems and need to have something exchanged. This should be included in the total rental costs.

This place does have much lower prices, but I would not travel that far to rent ski's. Especially as the only ski rental I do is for my son and generally he needs to be with me to hire the kit.

Therefore ideally you would rent at the ski location but this would be too costly (unlesss you get a season hire at the only resort you will ski at), so you take a small risk that you might have to do a one-day hire at the resort if something breaks.....

Re: Ski and Snowboard hire [season/short-term]

I agree.....obviously the closer the place to your house, the better, but the difference in price was so great (considering we were both hiring the whole kit) that it was still well worth it to travel the 40 mins it took us.....even if we have to go back to change something. Which we won't of course, since we were so well-fitted. (Says she.....crossing fingers and toes!)

And......from the amount of ZH registered cars in their carpark a lot of other people were prepared to travel that extra distance for the cheaper price. (And they can't ALL be Scottish!)

Re: Ski and Snowboard hire [season/short-term]

Anyone know of anywhere in thalwil or Nearby where we can hire kids skis for the season as someone told my wife of a good place but she can't remember the name of it. Not sure if it's the same place previously mentioned.

Re: Ski and Snowboard hire [season/short-term]

I've rented from this store on the main street in Thalwil for the season and it worked out great:

They have kids skis too. Enjoy!
