[Basel] Where can I learn to play golf

As an extremely unfit and unhealthy Brit, my doc has advised I begin to take up sport/exercise. Right! Like she should know!
Anyho - having given it some thought (ten minutes and a tube of Pringles in length) I have decided to THINK about golf - it looks a nice sedate sport that I can at least enjoy on vacations and the uniform looks quite snazzy.
Anybody know of any golf courses in or around Basel where some nice English speakers will be only too happy to ridicule me in public?
Will this be an expensive sport to take up (exluding the price of buying bats and balls of course!)
Thanx guyz

<And for any of you serious golfers out there - please forgive my blatant obtuseness>

Well... 3 hours slogging around a baking hot golf course isn't exactly for light weights...

But contact these guys http://www.baselbaggers.com/home.html they're a bunch of friendly english speaking expats of varying degrees of ineptitude

they mostly play in the Alsace as it's a bit cheaper and easier to organise

even then, it's expensive.. reckon on around 80 to 100chfs for an afternoon's entertainment

(oh, and if you're serious, I would recommend looking for your gear at either Athleticum in Dreispitz or maybe one of the big french sports supermarkets near mulhouse)

Well thank you very much indeed. I will take a look at their webiste - which on face value appears to be exactly what I am looking for. And many thanks for the advise on where to go shopping.

If you don't have a car there is a pitch and put in Bachgraben where you can get a lesson and play without a handicap so a good place to start. http://www.citygolf.ch/.

Also without a car you can get a lesson and practice here:

They have English speaking Golf Pro's at the course in Bad Bellingen just over the border in Germany. You need a car for this one.

Good Luck!

Good Luck!

The shop is still there but the driving range is now the new Allschwil football 'stadium'.
