Re: Wakeboarding

Thought id resurrect this thread again! Anyone else into their wakeboarding fancy taking a trip to a local(ish) cable park sometime soon?

http://www.wasserskipark-pfullendorf.de/

If you haven't tried it, imagine snowboarding or skateboarding on water, without hurting so much when you crash, the only downside, having to swim back to the bank, which isn't normally too far. Most parks supply kneeboards as well, designed for beginners an easy way to get going.

Re: Wakeboarding

Can't see myself cable skiing but who knows? I am keen to do some waterskiing this summer, anyone out there with a spare seat in their boat give me a shout (Zurisee or near). I am happy to contribute towards any costs, also a mechanic in a past life so can also help with maintenance ect.

Yep, I still have my board here. Think I need a 2-4 weeks of gym first to remind my office-designed muscles what they're about to encounter again... :-)

Re: Wakeboarding

Hi All,
I'd be delighted to get into this.
Have done a bit of wakeboarding before, but a long way to go, let's say just past beginner.
Will drive from Basel and can take four if you pack light.
Just drop me a PM if you're interested.
Pfullendorf seems a bit far unless cheap acommodation nearby, but alpha surf looks very doable.
When will the summer properly start?

BTW: This coming weekend works.

Re: Wakeboarding

Hi guys,

Is anyone interested to go to Pfullendorf next weekend 24-25th?
I became addicted to this place and this sport, but seems there is no possibility to go there if you don't have a car...
I would appreciate if you could let me know if there is a small free corner in yours

You also can write me via PM; may be we can find solution if there are several people...

See you on board!

These guys on Utoquai, Zurich Seefeld are somewhat pricey but I enjoy their no nonsense customer service, and cool pier:

Re: Wakeboarding

This thread seems very useful for the Wakeboarding and Wake Surfing options.

Everyone at my work goes with this bloke in Zurich (and doesn't seem to have been listed before):
http://www.wakeandski.ch/new_page/

The site is all in German, but if you call, they speak English.

There is also Wake Surfing on the above link.

Bungee Surfing:
Also, there has been some banter about the "Bungee Surfing". So here is a link to buy the bungee chord and the gear:
http://www.shakashop.ch/bungee-surfing-c-230_795.html?osCsid=18b621f1ee48d6436df8b81e6ce971 9d

I bought mine online, and I have to say I had two 'very high eyebrows' with how impressed I was with the service at the shaka shop.
They said it would be two days, and it took two days. They follow through with emails to tell you when your order has been confirmed, and when your goods are dispatched.

With Bungee Surfing, the technique is similar to Wakeboarding, but of course the ride is hideously limited....... but with the exception of the set up cost, it's free !!!! (no boat).
The rides however can be repeated once you've got the technique down, so you don't mind so much..... you still get hell tired.

It is true that people died with the Bungee surfing, so make sure you always do this with someone else.
Personally I don't find it dangerous (unless you kook it, and let go of the rope, then everyone on the bridge is at risk).
But take a knife and have someone on the bridge to cut the rope should the unthinkable happen.

Always be aware of others in the river.

River Surfing:
Keep your eyes on this link (set it to your favourites):
http://www.hydrodaten.admin.ch/d/2018.htm

The site is in German but all you need to check is the low in m3.
The flow should be between 220 - 340m3.... over this it gets messy and I assume much more dangerous.(250-300 is ideal)

There was a link posted earlier about an article killing people on this. The guys on the river assured me that this article was abou the Bungee surfers and not the river wave.

Bremgarten packs out, so don't be shocked at the line up.

Happy Swiss Surfing.

Bungee surfing are you having a laugh?! Ive seen people wakeboarding off a generator engine with a big wheel fitted, winding the rope in. But bungee? Got any youtube clips?

Re: Wakeboarding

I guess you live close to Zurich so I don't know if my post is really relevant for you but you can go wakeboarding and waterskiing on the lake in Estavayer too. You're pulled by a cable, just like ski lifts. I don't know the prices though but it's the biggest wakeboarding lift in Switzerland. You can also rent all the equipment there. It's a really nice place and good fun!

I know exactly what you mean, I'm only a learner and you need some strength in the arms for sure, otherwise forget it. Not to mention the back snapping jerk from the wire when you intially take to the water (if you're on a cable system)

Re: Wakeboarding

Youll find, once you get used to the timing of the cable you lean into the pull and can launch very smoothly. Like most things its more about technique and for this part the most crucial element is timing.
As soon as you see the carrier pick your rope and you see the tension build on the rope, start to lean back, as you do so push into the wakeboard, (bias the weight to the back foot, so as to prevent a nose dive) and up you pop. Keep your elbows in close and the bar near hip which will also give you some control as you launch. Basically try not to launch with straight arms!! Try and relax, dont be tense, knees bent, of you go to the first corner, spot the cones, swing to the outside to keep a constant rope tension.

What am i doing as this desk... I want to go now!!!!

Gloves are also recommended, for the office types amongst us. Blisters tingle.

I did post this link earlier:
http://www.shakashop.ch/bungee-surfing-c-230_795.html?osCsid=18b621f1ee48d6436df8b81e6ce971 9d

The front page should have a youtube link to people using the bungee chord from the beach.
They place a sand anchor behind the breaking wave and use a few mates to stretch the bungee back.

As for Youtube links to the river here in Switzerland, no, I haven't come across any. I have filmed the odd ride or two.... but as I was trying to point out. This is just fun, it is in NO WAY a replacement for wakeboarding or surfing, but it's hell cheap (<300CHF and you're set).

Just go to any low bridge along the limmat on a weekend and someone will be in the water. You do need a fair bit of water moving through to make it worthwhile.... I suggest you wait for some decent rain to allow for water volume and you will see what it's like.

Don't knock it til you try it.

When there's no waves, and you've got light pockets, this is pretty good fun.

Also on youtube..... search Banshee Bungee and you will also find clips of people using the bungee chord in the snow.

On the product, they state that the stretching capability of the chord is upto 7 times its length (i.e. a 6m chord will stretch 42m max)...... but you'd need a lot of water to do this.

Most crew on the bridges are pretty cool to let you have a go if you ask nicely.

Re: Wakeboarding

Fyi i made it to Pfullendorf at the weekend. Think i must of picked the coldest day of the last few months.

Still it was great, the place is well run with friendly staff, bit of a 'swim of shame' if and when you do wipe, used to princes in Feltham where you're only ever a short swim to shore.

They do get a bit animated if you attempt you use the kickers with their hire boards. So im heading home this weekend to grab my kit im hooked again

Ill be heading up there 7/8Aug if anyone fancies a lift from Zurich. I thoroughly recommend it!!!

cheers
