Good Ski Resorts for Zurich

I was wondering what the best snowboarding resorts to go to are from Zurich for a day trip. Initially I wont have my own transport so If anyone can suggest a resort that you can get to quickly by public transport that would be excellent.

Re: Good Ski Resorts for Zurich

Flumserberg is the most convenient but get the 'Snow 'n Rail' brochure from SBB as it lists 37 ski resorts with good prices for combined rail and ski pass (especially if you have a 1/2 tax card)

Davos, Arosa and Lenzerheide are also easy trips taking an hor or so longer than Flumserberg

I do ski at Flumserberg but depending on your standard it gets very busy on the blue runs and a day card is aprox 50 chf.
We have our own company unofficial English Ski club and we tend to go to Ibergeregg for about 29 chf for a day card, its a bit smaller but its not so busy and we only go for the fun of it, you would be welcome along as we have just lost 2 members (not skiing they went back to work in England). Maybe it would be a good idea for this forum to have some sort of whos going where and if they have got room to take extra people bit like a ski car sharing section?.

Re: Good Ski Resorts for Zurich

I'd love to join you but just to clarify when I say ski I use the generic term as I have only actually skied for one week, I snowboard. It would be great to have some company whilst skiing.

Re: Good Ski Resorts for Zurich

You are always welcome. I will always post when I have space in my car.

Our club we need people who enjoy getting down a hill as badly as possible while trying to look elegant no matter what they are riding on Skis snowboards big foots etc. We just aim to amuse people with our style and have a great time. Our Club has English, German and Swiss members Male and Female and everybody goes home happy.

Re: Good Ski Resorts for Zurich

Then count me in!

I think a good poll for the forum is do you ski or board

Questions could be

I ski because I think a one piece lime green jump suit looks good on me

I Board because I like to sit in the middle of the piste and get in everbodies way

I do both because I have no dress sense and I'm lazy

I hate skiing it's for lazy people and those with no dress sense idiots

I also would like to suggest a seperate ski/snowboard forum

What do you think?

Re: Good Ski Resorts for Zurich

Hi,

I have been watching this thread with interest. I am keen to find out how close ski resorts are to Zurich? I have lived in Geneva for 18 months and loved the fact that I could be on the slopes in a little over an hour with good ski resorts like Chamonix, Morzine, Combloux fairly close by. But, i didn't venture as far as Zurich, indeed I only got as far as Zermatt and Saas Fee on my ski ing adventures.

If you could help out a brit keen to get back to Switzerland in time for the ski season I'd very much appreciate it.

Chaars.

Re: Good Ski Resorts for Zurich

After Saturday's snowfall, Flumserberg has opened a couple of Pistes today (Sunday). See:
www.flumserberg.ch/winter/de/news/news/items/Skibetrieb+am+Flumserberg.htm

Along with all ski resorts Flumserberg is notoriously optimistic with its snow depth reporting. In fact some 15 years ago so many lies were bandied in snow depths were dropped from Swiss snow reports in newspapers etc.

Re: Good Ski Resorts for Zurich

I was at Flumerberg on Friday Dec 29. Beautiful day, but skiing required some walking over grass in places. Should be better now...

TIP: the new sixer cabins up from Unterterzen (or Ober) can save 15/20 minutes drive and when the snow really comes you can ski back down to Oberterzen.

Yes, the new gondolas are great and much more convenient. They make travelling by train a more practical option now too as the gondolas are just across from the railway station.

Sadly, there doesn't seem to have been an increase in car parking capacity down there so on a busy day you'll have to get to Unterterzen early if you are driving ... otherwise you'll have to take your chances on driving up (probably having to park somewhere between Flums and Flumserberg and catch a bus).

They should introduce some ticket machines though. What usually happens is that a trainfull of people arrive and everyone has to buy their pass from the two booths at the gondola station.

Have they built the new six person chairlift on the Prodkamm side yet?

Yep, well it's an 8 seater and it is a problem getting 8 people who like to sit with one another...
