easy access to ski resorts from basel

Hey everyone,

i will be working in basel for a year starting this coming september. i'm pretty much a snowboard addict, so being so close to the swiss alps is like a dream. The only problem is getting to the ski resort from basel without a car.

I was wondering how easy it is to go to and from ski resorts from basel without your own car. Is there public transportation or companies that take you? Is it expensive?

I would like to know because I am trying to decide whether or not to bring my snowboard with me (as it is a hassle to carry it on the plane, plus they might charge me extra for odd shaped luggage). If it is easy to get to and from the ski resort, i hope to go every week during the season, and it would make sense to bring my board, cause rental fees add up.

any thoughts?

thanks

Re: easy access to ski resorts from basel

1. Take your board with you. You'll have to pay probably £20 quid or so for each journey on the plane with it.

2. Don't worry about not having a car, so long as you plan to do lots of weekend trips and not just for the odd 3/4 hours. If you have no car and you just want an afternoon of snow you'll be screwed. If you want to go for a weekend it's no problem.

3. You can also get special offers like purchasing ski lift + train tickets together so you can save a few francs that way.

4. Have fun!
