Roadie looking for club in Zurich

Hi folks, im here from scotland over the summer, and am looking for a road bike club to join in zurich - english speakers would be a bonus, also, whats the local racing scene like? pretty much written the season off, but a few local crits or something just to keep the motivation would be nice.

Also, do you know any good bike shops who speak english? The nice baggage staff put a nice crack in the carbon steerer on my TCR and my insurance company want written proof that the fork is unsafe to ride before they reimburse me for the replacement i had to shell out for - not the easiet thing in the world to explain when my german is fledgling at best and i have a glaswegian accent! any german speakers who could help me out would also be much appreciated.

Cheers!
Ali

Re: Roadie looking for club in Zurich

My bike hasn't arrived yet from US, but I know there are avid cyclists among this group. (Multiple hour rides over passes types.) Threads will help, and I will give a plug to hillseeker. The name is quite accurate!

I live right near a bike shop, but it is out of the way - I am in Gattikon (Search 8136). I hear they speak English, and perhaps I can help with the German at some point. The place is called Lerch, I think.

Good luck, and PM me if you want to try to arrange to meet at the shop.

Re: Roadie looking for club in Zurich

Went out for a wee pedal round the Lake today - nice ~50 miler from where I am, probably gonna make it a weekly thing, if anyones interested , its always nice to have someone to chat to and catch some wind

Averaged 20.3 mph to give you an idea of pace - if anyones up for it next saturday/sunday (mebbe both?) give me a pm and we can arrange a meet up.

Were plenty of tri folk about training for the IM.

we, the EF, have regular Thursay night rides, over some hilly terrain, maybe 1000 meters climbing and 50 kilometers, which we knock out in maybe a little more than 2 hours (we aren't speed demons but we do okay). Most of us hate riding around the lake when there so many great car free places to go that just involve going up some hils.

Check out the calendar....

There aren't many crits here in Switzerland that I am aware of there are alot of endurance type cycling events though. There is a thread called Cycling in Switzerland which covers all this territory.

Re: Roadie looking for club in Zurich

It's great to see another cyclist has joined the Forum . I can't answer your questions directly, but I can point you towards places where you may find the answers.

Two other threads about English-speaking cycling clubs in Zurich:
Competitive cycling in Zurich
[Zurich Area] English-speaking cyclists
Also, as dakman said, get yourself along to the Thursday evening rides organized through EnglishForum (e.g., fifth thursday night bike ride).

I don't know of any crit races, but there are several cyclosportifs, most of which use quite mountainous routes. Here is the thread: Bicycling: long-distance, mass-participation rides. Plus, I made an index of all the rides on this website.

You should certainly check out the extensive Cycling in Switzerland thread, there's lots of info there that should answer many questions you have about riding here.

Bike mechanics near Zurich have been discussed here and here.

All the best with the riding!

Yeah, hope you can make it this Thursday (http://www.englishforum.ch/social-ev...bike-ride.html).
Always happy to meet another cyclist here!
