Wanting to Swim in Lausanne

Hi i am going to be living in Lausanne for a year starting in a few weeks. And i wanted to know where a pool is that is good for a lap swimmer? Also are there any swimming competitions (for an intermediate swimmer) that take place every year in Switzerland, or any swim organizations that have swim competitions or anything like this in the Canton of Vaud or somewhere nearby Lausanne?

Re: Wanting to Swim in Lausanne

You asked about swimming organizations: I do know that FINA is located in Lausanne, but that's probably not quite what you meant by a swimming organization. But seriously, there's lots of helpful info on pools and swimming in the area in this thread. I'd highly recommend the lake, if you arrive while it's still warm.

Cheers,

Heather

I found this on the Lausanne Tourist Info website; there are links to indoor and outdoor pools in the area:

May just try that. Anywhere in particular or just jump in wherever.

Re: Wanting to Swim in Lausanne

You can jump in anywhere you like, although places near where the steamboats dock are less-than-ideal for obvious reasons. I quite like going to Lutry beach (east of the village centre), where there's also a buvette selling food and drinks, and there's a diving board as well. It's easily accessible by public transit: the beach is just 100m or so from Lutry Rive bus stop. Disadvantages are that the beach area is small and it gets very crowded whenever the weather is nice. If you're there just to swim, however, it's a great spot.

There is a beach in Pully as well, but you have to pay an entrance fee.

Also, anywhere between Ouchy and St. Sulpice (i.e. Vidy) is quite nice. Lots of sand beaches, and it's such a huge area it's not too crowded. We had a big BBQ down in Vidy a few weeks ago and the water was fantastic.

Come to think of it, tonight would be a perfect evening for a swim...

Depends on what you mean by intermediate Swimmer. Clubs, including Lausanne Natation are under Swiss Swimming Association.
SLRG (Life Savers, have competitions of a 'different' kind). www.slrg.ch

Thanks for the information. I am not an advanced swimmer/athlete, i am classifying myself as intermediate, because i used to swim competitively, a few years ago, and have been swimming, to stay fit for the last 6 months or so, and i am wanting to swim competitively. I typically swim a mile 4 x's a week, (freestyle) and would be interested in swimming a distance race or something for a club.

Re: Wanting to Swim in Lausanne

Went to a pool, diving platform, water slide place yesterday evening which was great. As we went after 6pm it was only 3Chf to get in - mind you it closes just after 8. But they had quite a few slides, and a huge diving platform which is brilliant. Also, there is a lap pool so they may have a swimming club. To go normal times I believe it is 6Chf to get in, and to use the slides it also costs around that much. But they do have a few free ones which did me fine. So 3Chf for a swim and a go on the free slides cant be beat! Whoo yeah! It's just outside of Lausanne - not sure what it is called but if you like me to find out let me know.

Re: Wanting to Swim in Lausanne

I hope I am posting this under the right thread.

If you wish to locate swimming pools in/around Lausanne, or anywhere in Switzerland this website is very handy http://www.swissbadeanstalt.ch/index.php?language=en
