Kids Soccer (Football) Club - Basel

Hi, just moved to Basel and my youngest son (aged 7) is a keen soccer (need to get used to now saying football) player. Are there any local football clubs that are recommended? And hopefully some contact details? Heard the football season was starting soon so don't want to miss out on registration. We live in Binningen so preferably a club nearby.

Thanks for any advice on where to find info.

Re: Kids Soccer (Football) Club - Basel

Good morning.
Far be it from me to put you off, but if your children go to the ISB and it is anything like the ZIS in the Lake Zürich region, it might be worth checking how the club training and matches fit in with the ISB school timetable (note that the school holidays aren't the same as the Swiss ones either) before joining and paying membership fees. There is a lot of sport in the ZIS, from the Homepage of the ISB it might be similar, and the children who are good at sports are quickly involved in school teams. This brings quite a problem of divided loyalties if they are invited to play in two places at once.

Thanks Longbyt

I'd really like the kids to also have friends in the Swiss community and thought soccer would be a great way to meet some.

But will take your advice and check out the schedules.

I quite see your point. It's a great idea to integrate this way.
My thought only came because for years I coached in a swimming club and I saw how the 'International' children missed out on training sessions, which meant some of them didn't make the progress they should have done. Even those who were good enough to take part, were not here for summer outdoor competitions, also missing the nationals, because they went 'home' during their long summer break. Frustrating for both child and coach!

A very good start is teaching your kids to call the sport Football and not Soccer.

Re: Kids Soccer (Football) Club - Basel

BSC Old Boys are planning to start a free training program open for all kids without football clubs. This should start within the next couple weeks. If you are interested, I could send you more information. thx
