Hey Moose,

All the information you could *ever want* about the pools in canton Vaud is listed in this pdf. To let you know, there are very few indoor ones (something like four in the whole canton), and I've heard the one in Lasuanne, Mon Repos, is so busy that smashing elbows with people around you is an ongoing problem, so I've never bothered going. Also, pool opening hours are limited compared to the rest of the world (Mon-Repos opens at 8:30, the one in La Tour de Peilz 6:15 pm!) so a quiet early-morning swim before work isn't possible.

There are, however, a very large number of outdoor pools in the area that are open for an extended summer season (many are heated), and these are quite cheap. Check out the pdf for details. You also have at your disposal a 70 km-long swimming pool (Lac Leman) that is safe for swimming, so long as you keep out of the path of the 1220-passenger steamboats.

The beach at Lutry is a popular swimming area, but there are other beaches dotted along the coastline.

Happy swimming...

HeatherM

Hello,

There are four indoor pools in Lausanne:and the following outdoor pools:I have to admit that of all of them, I have only been to one, Bellerive, which is down by the lake and only open in the summer. It is a huge lido with several pools and a specially marked off area of the lake which is supervised by lifeguards. There are also lots of sports facilities such as table tennis tables, beach volleyball pitches etc.. If you want a quiet swim, it is best to go early in the morning as it does get very busy.

The link for "Abonnements" explains the various types of season tickets available.

(I hope the links work, if not go to www.lausanne.ch, follow "Sportive City", "Installations Sportives" and then follow the links for indoor and open-air swimming pools)

Re: swimming pools in Laussane or Vevey

Its very difficult to get non-obsessives to understand what swimming is all about. I do not want to swim in the sea for exercise. I want to swim early in the morning (early = 6 am - 7 am). I want to crawl 1.5 km in a wide lane and not worry about backstrokers and other patheticistas splashing around and in my way of my dynamic progress. I want to swim in a halle not weathervulnerable badt. I want a knock me off my feet shower afterwards. I want to be able to park my jam-jar within three minutes walk of the water. I want all of this to be found no more than 15 minutes drive from my apartment. Otherwise I am boringly normal,

Any one else similarly afflicted?
