I thought I will create a new thread about healthy living for people who are interested in getting fit, healthy and losing weight. Please share your experiences, ask questions etc i know it has nothing to do with Switzerland, but people seem to be interested in that kind of thing as well |

What an ange, dwilkinson! Maybe we will get bumped into Off-Topic -OR- will it have an edge because we are doing it as expats in CH????!!!!!!
I was hoping for a punchier thread title, though! Can we change it if we think of something hip?

Everything started from Skimmed Milk And now we are sharing our experiences in losing weight, or should I say HEALTHY LIFESTYLE. Nothing wroks more then just changing the way you live, because diets just make you crave for things youre not allowd to eat and its so easy to go back to what you were before.
cant send the after picture too big do it later

Everything in moderation, Sister! Or you will drive yourself nuts...straight into a binge!

If that is your idea of a fat picture, I'm sorry, but you are dead sexy, Mama!
Flaunt it! There should be a smilie getting *excited*, so I could click on it right now!
I'm joking, said the hetero married woman!
My suggestion for a punchier thread title - "Healthy Living: We're bringing sexy back!"
inspired by Justin Timberlake's Sexy Back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBfwEqRE6-Y

Carrie and dwilkinson...thank you!! This is exactly the thread that my New Years resolution needs.
Am looking forward to getting extra motivation and inspiration here.
My approach: I'm going to increase my fitness (what am I saying...increase??....what I mean is, I'm going to GET fit) with either gym or Aquafit (any recommendations appreciated) and eat a lot more fruit and vegies, and a lot less fatty, sugary stuff.
Let's see how I go.....aiming for 7 kgs off.
Anyway, thanks again for this new thread!

I lost 10Kilos and got myself really fit. How? Since last July I have walked briskly for one hour every single day, rain ro shine. Up about 200 metres too.
I don't have to watch calories too much with this exercise, but laying off the booze, except at weekends helps too.

Excellent thread!
I've started going swimming regularly (at least twice a week is what I call regular) but have put on 2 kilos!
However everything feels a bit harder, no double-entendre, so I'm quite happy.
6 CHF an entry, your local Badi is one of Switzerland's bargains.

Thank you, Litespeed! It's hard to "cool it" - I've got that much fervor for getting FIT!
Am going to make my very best effort!
My mom is coming to visit and I bet I can get her to eat a raclette and a fondue and still lose a kilo in the 8 days she's here!

Anyway, thanks again for this new thread! | | | | | First off all, dont think about diet as a temporary thing. Start eating healthy light food and start liking it. Its very important that you read labels of everything you buy. Aim for 1200kcal, 20g of saturated fat per day and you should loose wait quickly. If need to snack eat fruit. Never fry in oil, poor some water in a pan if it sticks or use vegetable stock. Eat everything but in a healthy way. ALWAYS eat breakfast, because that increases your metabolism and you burn fat easier. Dont force yourself exercising because it wont last if you dont enjoy it. Choose something fun e.g. I am going to play squash tomorrow. Its really fun, my husband and I have a blast all the time. And it burns 600Kcal per hour. Good luck!! If have any questions youre welcome
Im sorry. Are you a femail or male? If youre mail then 2000KCAL and 30g of saturated fat

Good point!!!! The ones that dont think that alcohol does any harm for weight loss check this out!!! Although, little bit of wine, or gin with slim line tonic is ALRIGHT http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk...er/alcohol.htm

I think support from family and friends also helps, especially if they change their eating/exercising habits too. Luckily my fiance is also motivated to do the same, so I'm lucky.
BTW good to see this thread has really taken off, must be more of us with the same new year's resolution! |

One of the difficulties when I arrived in Switzerland was not being able to road cycle all year round. That put me back on the weight-loss rollercoaster.
I ended up buying a C2 rowing machine (model D). Gym quality and costs about 2'000francs, or the same as a good quality mountain bike. But this thing is great for winter and bad weather, and burns serious calories if you do 30-60min or more in one hit. I lost around 8 kg in 10 weeks using one. There is a great PC program, Rowpro, which makes using the machine even more fun (you can race other people online!). And if you end up needing/wanting to sell it, you can usually recover 80-90% of the purchase price.
You can get a nearly-new one even cheaper. The Swiss Indoor Rowing comp is on the 26/27 January in Zürich. These are new machines used only for the comp, and are sold for 1600chf if you are prepared to go there and pick it up straight after the comp. I would not be afraid to by a comp machine as these thing are solid built, weigh only 30kg and fit in most cars. Go for the model D, not the E. Check out: http://www.rowingindoors.ch/indoors/ergoverkauf/

I believe , as has been said before, it is not nessacarily what you eat, but more how you eat it. In fast paced cultures there seems to be a tendancy to wolf down food which often means you over eat as the message from your stomach that actually you are satisfied doesn't arrive until you have over eaten. The best explaination of this I read was in a book by Paul McKenna http://www.amazon.co.uk/Can-Make-You.../dp/0593050541. the book is very interesting though I'm not very impressed by the self hypnosise cd. Also I would say from my experience here that the culture holds mealtime in higher regard. Less people eating aldeskco but going to the canteen for a leisurely repast. Still I don't think you can exclude exercise as modern life styles don't tend to be very active. If I spent more time exercising than writing this crap maybe I'd be thin.
