| | | [Waedenswil, Zurich] Indoor Climbing
Hi,
I am moving next week to Wädenswil. Does anyone know if there's an indoor climbing wall in Wädenswil?
If not which is the friendliest in Zürich?
Thanks very much!
Jo

I don't know about Wädi, but I know of a new very friendly one in Zürich that has just opened. I haven't been been inside - just looked in through the door - so I really can't say much about their walls but the people I know who have been there all say that it's really nice people running it with quite a laid-back atmosphere. It's on Seestrasse in Wollishofen, if you drive frome Wädenswil, it has the same entrance as the Kibag Cement place which is about 100m past the Rote Fabrik.... speaking of which, there is a "movement room" in the Rote Fabrik that can be used by anyone, which has a nice high wall with an over hang! You just need to called the "Sekretariat" to talk about booking it, I even have the number for you (just happen to be sitting in the office here) 044 4855858.
Have fun!

Hi Jo,
There's one near Zug called Pilatus Indoor, but it's probably quicker to get to Zurich. There a post about this here, from some time ago. Indoor climbing at Pilatus Center
Or you can come join us in Zurich, we've set up a google group, always happy to have new climbers . [Zurich, Adliswil] Any rock climbers out there?
There a bouldering wall also near Rote Fabrik called Minimum, there's a link somewhere on the thread and also on the google group page.
Thanks,
Ali.

Hi I-b-deborah and Ali
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it.
I'll have a good look at the links. I can't wait to get there and find out where everything is!

Hi Jo......one of the worlds biggest climbing centers is in schlieren, on the outskirts of zürich: http://gaswerk.kletterzentrum.com/home.php
I only heard good reports about the place but never been myself.

Has anybody run across a less fancy, perhaps more chilled out climbing wall in the Zürich area?? Appearance is not as important as just finding a laid back place to climb and meet some friendly people.

I know what you mean. I have been to the Gaswerks a couple of times now. With a friend to start with and we had a good time and enjoyed it a lot. Have been on my own a couple of times since (using the auto belayer I can climb alone) but it is not the friendliest of places, too big for that.
I'm used to a small wall/school back home and if you go along there and have no one to climb with you soon pick up a buddy.
Let me know if you find somewhere else or if you want to go to the Gaswerks one afternoon when it's a bit quieter! I'm not the most experienced of climbers but can do the usual climbs and belay. Up to a 5c in there. Have done higher in UK but have a feeling they grade differently after seeing a 7a here! |

I won't have a car until the first week of October. Until then, I can get to Milandia ( http://milandia.kletterzentrum.com/home.php) by public transport pretty easily if you'd like to try to go there sometime... I am also quite interested in the minimum bouldering palce. I live on the other side of the See but its definitely accessable to me now. My options will open up a lot when I get my car so let me know! I am honestly unfamiliar with the Euro climbing scale but I was getting on 5.9-5.10 in the USA before I came. I havent climbed in about 3 months though so we'll see where I am... I can do the standard belay stuff and lead an occasional sport route.
Cheers,
Kimberly

I've just found a site with indoor climbing places. Kletterhallen
Clicking on the sentence " Eine Übersicht der Kletterhallen mit direktem Link finden Sie hier" in the middle of the page takes you straight to the map. Unfortunately the text is in German, but 'mouse-clicks' are the same in any language. | |
