What Are Your Favourite / Best Swiss Ski Runs?

Hi,

I love going to different ski resorts in Switzerland for variety.

Can anyone suggest some memorable/spectacular/picturesque ones please?

So far I like the run from Parsene in Davos down to Kloisters, long and interesting.

I also like the smooth slopes at Gstaad for nice open undemanding gliding.

I am tempted to do the run from Piz Gloria at Murren / Schilthorn. From the cable-car it looks nice and easy but I heard it has a sharp dangerous turn on it near the top.

Anyhow, I've been to loads of resorts but would appreciate pointers to lovely runs in Swiss resorts that you think are fun (not blacks just yet for me if I'm going to take in the scenery/enjoy it) to plan my new season travels.

Cheers,
HB

I looked at pervious posts but couldn't find anything similar this year. Please advise if this has already been discussed.

Hi, Arosa is my favorite resort for skiing, the blue and red slopes are great. If you're willing to travel to France, I can highly recommend Chamonix and Avoriaz-Morzine.

As long as it's deep, it doesn't really matter:

These don't really match your criteria but anyways, my favorite runs in Engelberg are the Laub, Steinberg and Galtiberg. None of these are groomed but they are sure fun when the snow is good.

Steinberg

Galtiberg

As far as groomed runs and fantastic scenery, you can't really go wrong with the Gornergrat area in Zermatt:

Zermatt isnt great if you're a beginner or intermediate skier. I found the blue and red slopes very steep, and didnt enjoy skiing there at all. Would not go back.

I didn't find this the case at all. If anything, I would have preferred it to be a bit steeper. Perhaps you were there when not everything was opened? There are a lot of runs in the Zermatt area that would take a few days to fully explore. I would give it a second try as I think that the intermediate terrain is quite nice and the scenery is amazing.

Scary, change-of-ski-pants type of run as I recall. Had to do it because the rest of the group had tricked me into going up there then wouldn't let me take the gondola back down.

My favourite run is the Talabfahrt back down to the Männlichen car park in Grindelwald. Lovely tree-bordered runs with fab little chalets serving gluhwein at a couple of stops going down. Cool.

Flims/laax.
Huge area with a big variety in runs.
Its also big enough that it never seems to get overpoweringly busy.
good lifts, easy to get to and its high so there is always snow,

Although I have skiied for one season, I think I still consider myself a beginner.

Would you recommend Zermatt for "beginners"? Are most slopes quite steep or do you have some easy runs, i.e. wide and flattish?

How difficult would you rate the slopes at Zermatt? Thanks!

Andermatt as I recall has some cool runs for those that like steep but not bumpy.

Hi Cremebrulee (are you a fan of The League of Gentlemen" comedy series?),

The Ski Club of Great Britain says, "Not ideal for beginners" for Zermatt.
