Indoor Cycle Roller

Afternoon everyone

Just some info for anyone into their cycling who trains indoors during the winter. Not something i'd use but its coming to aldi and seems reasonable compared to what i've seen in some bike shops in Zurich.

I'm gonna go for the snowtube myself for some crazy sledding action

Enjoy

Brian

Re: Indoor Cycle Roller

I just bought an indoor trainer for this winter. I haven't used it as much as I hoped yet. I went and splashed out on a fairly good one that I can connect to the computer because I had heard from a lot of people that it gets pretty boring. Even with the one I have where I can ride virtual courses and set training sessions or even put in profiles of passes from the internet and then ride them it is still fairly boring.

If you are highly motivated then I'd say the one from Aldi might be reasonable value otherwise it may just sit in the corner and not get used.

I find if you are going to use something like this, it is nicer to use your own bike then an exercise bike type thing, but if you use a MTB on it you might want to swap out your back tyre for a slick as the knobbles make a lot of noise on the roller.

Oh and you sweat like a ***** ******** in a Barney suit when you are using these things indoors. You'll need to put something on the floor to catch the sweat.

Re: Indoor Cycle Roller

I never liked the indoor trainers. More, I hate them

I have one that I haven't used in 5 years.

Nothing replaces the freedom of riding outside, the sun, the wind.

I simply go out and ride. No matter the cold, yesterday was 2°C and it was great.

Re: Indoor Cycle Roller

It is boring but not many alternatives on weekday evenings unless you don't mind riding when it is cold and dark (which I do sometimes)... but rather than sitting on the couch watching TV afterwork I sit on the trainer....that way it doesn't seem like a waste of time...

Re: Indoor Cycle Roller

Good advice on the rear wheel Eire.

Its not something i'm going to purchase as I don't have the patience to cycle on and on like that without being outside on the road or fighting up the Uetliberg and flying back down

Re: Indoor Cycle Roller

I can't stand riding indoors either... so boring. But, better than nothing, especially if running is not an option.

Eire, did you get the Tacx trainer?? If so we need to get set up so we can "ride with each other" online! That would help ease the boredom... a little "friendly competition" might do us both good!

Yea I got the tacx, but I only have the basic courses. I started my two month trial to virtual racing so we can give it a go someday...

But your type of friendly competition scares me. Go easy on me.

Re: Indoor Cycle Roller

I also have one which lives somewhere in the house with us, but no idea where. Soooooo boring!!
I would rather freeze outdoors on my winter bike.

and for after work night rides add lupine edison light.

You better not show that bike to Salsa Lover.

Nice bike, a mate of mine has the soft tail version (at least it looks quite similar but with a bit of elastomer stuck in the top of the seat stay.

I considered to get a Salsa "La Cruz" or a "Chili con Crosso" for my cross bike, but I couldn't stand the bright orange and bright green

The model name I liked more is the Salsa "Mamasita" for the 29er this is what we say in spanish to a hot girl "Mamasita"

I prefer my Ridley, subdued carbon/gray as it should be, after all I am a gentleman, and gentlemen wear gray/black (at least in london).

Like your handlebar gloves.

C'mon you lazy cyclists. go out and have fun! yesterday was great and today is almost as springtime.

I go for a ride through the forests in some minutes, sun is shining

Actually I liked a lot the off road riding, it is just the jumping over the rocks what I didn't like.

I want to keep me away from injuries, I prefer to have my body in working conditions to do the other things I like to do.

When I was playing football for example, there was allways something, a kick on a shin, a stomp on a little toe, an sprained thumb etc, a sore rib etc, then I had to stop for days to recover. So I fully stop football.

Same with MTB, the three times I came, I had 3 little injuries, sure nothing big, but I understand it is a part of the game and once you learn the skill the risks of injury are lower but I prefer not to.

I love to ride the cross bike through the forests here, so peaceful and closer to the nature, and you have many good climbs to do from the Sihlwald to the Horgenberg for example.

You can get them for drop bars as well, but only from the usa.

Our Krapf Cup race this morning was minus 4° at the start and the 5.2km rounds were probably 75% ice up and down hill with one really icey downhill hairpin corner, Fun but a lot of swearing.

Not really... ok, maybe But it's really just to motivate myself, else I tend to slack off... Thing is, it usually ends up "motivating" my "competitors" even more to where they leave me in their dust and I never see them again!
