Have you been to Flumserberg in the last week?

Hi All,

I notice that Flumserberg is updating/rennovating their website and as a result it was very slow the other day. Now I notice that the open lifts page is constantly changing. Specifically the lower lifts around Tannenboden regularly change from "closed" to "in preparation" to "open" and back again. Is this accurate? Has anyone been to Flumserberg Tannenboden in the last week? If so please let me know what the current conditions are as I would like to visit at the weekend. If these lower lifts are closed then access to Mittenwald/Tannenheim is not possible from the Unterterzen side and I will be quickly bored by the few runs (beginner) I can actually do from the Tannenboden lifts.

Thanks,

Chris

Re: Have you been to Flumserberg in the last week?

i was there tuesday, and whilst all the lifts weren't open you could connect everywhere with pretty good conditions everywhere. i expect they keep some lifts closed to keep their midweek running costs as low as possible. Conditions are good and will have improved over the last couple of days so would expect it to be very open this weekend. Although leist may stay closed - lots of rocks up there so last to open.

Leist seems to be closed about 75% of the times I have been there.

Re: Have you been to Flumserberg in the last week?

Talking to a customer today who went last week, the English pages of the Flumserberg web site showed all lifts open, when he got there they were all closed!

It seems they are up-dating the home page and the English pages are a little behind - so - check on the German pages, they are correct.

Re: Have you been to Flumserberg in the last week?

Thanks for the info everyone, I will check the German pages as well from now on. With the recent weather I would expect everything to be open but I guess the pistes still need to be prepared.

Saturday looked best weather wise a couple of days ago but now I notice it is shifting towards Sunday.

From Tannenheim everything would appear open. I am concerned about the connecting runs between Tannenboden-Mittenwald-Tannenheim, they are quite narrow in places and run under trees so I guess require quite some snow and to be prepared.

I actually emailed them about this during the week as I noticed that the lower lifts were closed. They responded saying that they are not always open, and that you need to check on the day.

http://www.flumserberg.ch/winter/en/...genbericht.htm

Then that particular day (Wednesday I think) they had opened 2 of the lifts (Tannenboden/Madils), but noticed they were closed again today. Perhaps on the weekend when there is more demand, they'll all be open. Was thinking of going on Saturday, but might leave it for another week. I'm a beginner and I need to get some practice on those slopes.

Re: Have you been to Flumserberg in the last week?

I have family over and they were at Flumserberg yesterday and will go again today and they said it was all open and the slopes were all well prepared. No people though - they passed maybe 20 others. Ofcourse the WE will be something completely different.

Re: Have you been to Flumserberg in the last week?

Well, I will give it a go. I think that if all else fails then there are regular buses from Tannenboden-Mittenwald-Tannenhiem.

Thanks for all the help.

I will be going up early tomorrow morning for the day. If anyone wants to meet for a ski or for a hot chocolate during the day, PM me and we'll sort something out.

Tannenboden

Schwammkopf

Madils

Mittenwald

http://www.flumserberg.ch/winter/de/...genbericht.htm

I see that 3 of the beginner lifts are currently open. These are T bar lifts, I think?

I only started skiing last year on carpet/button lift nursery slopes (very basic), took a couple of private lessons. I might make Flumserberg on Saturday so I'll spend maybe 1/2 hour to 1 hour on the carpet lift, but I'd like to then try one of the D lifts above.

- As a beginner are those lifts easy to use - i.e. would I need anyone to show me what to do?
- Are they for 1 or 2 people? My wife will be with me, but not sure if she'll be ready for this
- Can I get off half way up the slope if I think it's going to be too much?

Just don't want to make a complete ass of myself

Assuming that the T lifts at Flumserberg work like the T lifts everywhere else in the world, the answers are "easy, two, and yes (but make sure you can move out of the way quickly when you do that)".

Just look at how the others do before you try getting on one (make sure to point your skis in the right direction before you grab hold of the anchor, and avoid getting hit by one. Better let one or two go than fall over the first thing you do). Try not to zigzag when going uphill, and be a bit careful when you're getting off so you or the anchor won't hit anyone else when you let go of it.

When in doubt, ask for help. You just need to do it a couple of times to figure out how it works. And trust me, there's always someone nearby who's a bigger newbie than you are
