Sailing in Lausanne

Hi I just moved to Lausanne at the start of the year, used to do a lot of sailing may years ago and I would be really interested in getting back into it. Dinghy to start off with and that 60 foot yacht when my pension (lotto) comes in. Any advice on clubs

Re: Sailing in Lausanne

Hi,

One club/school I would not recommend is 'ecole de voile d'ouchy' in Ouchy. I took lessons with them and they were irresponsible (we had an accident due to the teacher's inattention) and he was more worried about the damages to his boat rather than his students.. And they don't speak english very well.

Let me know though if you find another good club as I would like to try again this summer!

Re: Sailing in Lausanne

Hi there

Im sorry, I cant help you but my reply is kind of related. Im shortly moving to be near Lake Constance (Bodensee) and was wondering how to get the relevant licences to sail there. My Swiss German is OK but not good enough to take sailing lessons in or theory tests on navigation. If anyone knows of any English speaking sail schools on the lake (German, Austrian or Swiss) Id love to know about them.

Good luck with your sailing in Lausanne.

I was also wondering whether there is a differnce between having a boat in sea water (+Salt) and in fresh water, maintenance wise. Im sure Ill get the answer to this on a sailing website somewhere but was just wondering.

Re: Sailing in Lausanne

If you are certified to sail in another country then send your certification to the national governing body in your country and ask them to issue a HOCC (Helmsmans Overseas Certificate of Competency). You may get away with your certification as it stands but officially you should have the HOCC as far as I am aware. It also depends on what you qualified in, if you qualified in a dinghy then they may not cover you to sail a 30 foot keel boat.

Sailing classes for kids in Lausanne

Dear English Forum members:
We will be in Lausanne for a few weeks in August and I am looking for sailing classes in English for our kids. Does anyone have any recommendations about sailing clubs in the Pully, Lutry, Lausanne area (maybe even in Vevey)? I am looking for some kind of half-day activity for them (they've already visited the Zoo in Servion, and the Olympic and Nestle museums so we want to try something new). Any ideas are greatly appreciated, thanks.
