| | | Gyms in Lausanne/Geneva/Vaud
Thought I would start a thread on Gyms in Lausanne/Geneva/Vaud, seen as there is one for Zurich and one for Zug (If someone has already started one that I didn't see, I apologise).
Personally I am more keen on Lausanne over Geneva, as I will be living there (but maybe commuting to Geneva). The only one I can think of so far is Holmes Place, both in Geneva and Lausanne, but the prices seem to be quite steep (I heard CHF2,100 yearly), or maybe that is just the norm, or maybe you can haggle..
Anyway, if anyone has any other gyms...
Thanks

Hello, Welcome to Lausanne!
I have been going to the Migros Gym in Lausanne for a while now. They have a variety of classes and a fitness room with all the machines. I only go to the classes which I enjoy.
Migros is relocating to an area of Lausanne called Flon in April. This means there will be a reorganisation of the gym. From April on, in the new building, there will be classes in the morning until lunchtime. You can pay a monthly fee and go to as many as you like. There will not be a fitness room.
There are also classes in the evening. You pay for each class, usually it's the same group of people who follow for a certain period.
So, I am also looking into other gyms in Lausanne, as this doesn't suit me anymore.
Holmes place looks very tempting, but I would have to go often to justify the price!
Good Luck

Hello :-)
I can recommend you Silhouette in Lausanne www.silhouette.ch and Fitness Parc Malley www.fitnessparc-malley.ch/. The prices are still reasonable and the atmosphere is very friendly. These gyms have got also sauna, hamman, jacuzzi and swimming pool.
Just enjoy!
Cheers

Hey thanks for those recommendations Maggie.
I have just changed job, so have to change gym too.
Will check out the silhouette gym. Pity Malley is a little far out of Lausanne. Otherwise I would definately join. It's so relaxing!

Yes, thanks to all! I went to see the Silhoutte gym today (it turns out I live about 2 minutes from it!), the only annoying thing is that it has no elliptical machines (which account for about 70% of my gym workout!), but it is still way cheaper than Holmes Place (it's 995CHF a year), so better value for money!

I checked out shilouette too. It looks good. I like the option of having the aqua gym.
I am trying out equilibrium tonight. It's closer to where I live, so I am more likely to go!
Happy calorie burning.

I can't recommend this personally, as I prefer doing my exercise outdoors, (particularly in such a beautiful country!!) but I have a few friends who go to Let's Go Fitness on Rue de la Borde in Lausanne. They advertise fees of 77.- CHF/month, and those I know who go are pleased with it, to the point that two who moved to Malley still come into Lausanne to use it.
It's maybe worth a try?

Hi
Bon a Savoir recently compared a number of gyms in Lausanne/Geneva area.
Let's Go, Lausanne seems to be the best, and your recommendation Heather certainly seems to back this up. In French but you get the general idea. Comparison
Cheers

Reviving an ancient thread, I know.....
I am interested in checking out gyms in the Lausanne area (classes and fitness equipment), preferably located in central Lausanne. Just wondered if anybody could recommend one with child care facilities/creche?
Thanks!

This may be an old thread, but figured it was pointless creating a new thread for my one question:
Are there any gyms in this area that are open later than the norm?
They all seem to close at 9:00/9:30pm, which is the Swiss way I guess.
I work late, so I'm looking for a gym that closes something closer to 23:00.

Any chance of you doing a lunch time workout or a very early morning one before work instead? Hope you find something!

Hello,
I chose HOlmes Place and I am satisfied. The price is higher than in iother gyms but I go 3-5 times per week so at least I am using it as much as I can.
There are classes (for some you have to pay more), sauna and hamam.
I estimate the quality as very good.

I'm a night person, not one who likes early mornings. Never have, and probably never will. It's a curse!
Anyone else knows a gym open later than 22:00?
It would be much appreciated!

Hi all,
Most of the gyms mentioned here are for Lausanne. I just moved to Geneva and I'm on the look out for a good gym. Would be grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks

I joined the Harmony gym in Denges, it has a pool, hammam, sauna, machines, and classes (including spinning, yoga and pilates). They do a fitness workup (free) when you join. it's not open all that late, particularly on Sundays. It is definitely not a "meat market" or "jumbo muscles" kind of place. More midlife to geriatric crowd. I think there is also one in Geneva, check the site http://www.harmony.ch/
You may be able to get a discount if you work at a local company or institution, or if you bring your own towel, ask at the desk.
Mostly I'm with Heather, I prefer to be outdoors to do my exercise, but for winter and rainy weather, or when you're injured, it's nice to do spinning classes and swimming.
