It would be great if we can have several regular group rides going on this summer. This is how it was where we used to live - of course there are fewer of us here in Zurich, but still I am amazed by how many cyclists we seem to have on this forum.
I am planning on putting the weekly (hilly! ) Thursday night ride on the calendar soon, probably starting in mid-April as Eire mentioned - since it was so much fun last year. Of course I welcome anyone else who would like to organize rides so we can have multiple options.
And Yokine just pointed out to me - It seems about time for a Pre-Season Cyclist Social (where we can get together and talk about biking, & of course bike gear ... and skiing, which always seems to edge its way into the conversations), and I agree - So I am thinking of putting this on the calendar for Wednesday April 8th.... Stay tuned... (Now you guys can get back to all your calories/speed/hills vs flats debates... I just wanna ride my bike! ) | | | | | I'm all in!
I completely missed this whole thread about cycling (was too busy playing outside in the snow )
Looking forward for the Thursday rides!

Hopefully i can join in on some weekend rides (weekdays are out) this year as i have just bought a new old stock C'dale Synapse from work, it's a triple which i will swap over to a compact in the near future.
We also have some used quality roadies that are serviced and mostly come with a short warranty period as well as other new old stock bikes at well reduced prices. As well we have used and new old stock mountain bikes, sorry no cheap bangers.
Cheers

thanks in advance for your organizing of the spring cycling social event or possible event and for the previous events that you have already organized, but may i be a bit cheeky and ask if it would be possible to have something close ( quick walking distance) to the Hauptbahnhof for us out of towners. Just my idea, but then i don't know Züri all that well and the last two places have been great.
Cheers

Southie | | | | | I agree - and am open to suggestions! I don't go to Züri often myself either, so I am still learning from others about the best places to go...
We have had one suggestion so far: Les Halles - and it looks really good, but does not seem to meet the criteria of a short walk from the Bahnhof.
So does anyone have any other suggestions - Here is the main criteria as I see it:
* Non-smoking, or at least a separate section
* Walking distance from Zurich HB or other main Bahnhof
* Doesn't require payment up-front (like the last place we had it)
One I keep coming back to is Wagamama - What do you think about that...

Not really any closer and I don't know the smoke free status but you might want to try this place, they do have an outdoor area in the back with heaters which might improve the smoke free nature....Alternativel, I know a good Chinese, Beyond, right next to the station and believe it is smoke free (not 100% sure actually). I must get back to work

My suggestion is the Reithalle, cant vouch for the non-smoking-ness, but it's a big old horse stable so air flow is OK. Nice place and the best beer garden in central Zurich during summer. About 5 minutes walk from the HBhf, opposite El Lokal.

Of course we could always meet somewhere and ride to the location!
Somewhere out along the lake would be an option then.

I quite like it but it is sometimes very difficult to get a table there. It might be worth a shot though if people wanted to do a sit down meal.
I'd be game for a sit down meal at the movies place.

As part of your get together, in addition to good beer, can you please discuss if you will have any longish ride get togethers this year...like the triple pass one from last year. I am considering a Euro cyclo tour sometime in the summer and if feasible could tie it to an EF event....I am leaning towards June or September in order to avoid crazy season but far from definite on plans |

We will do that and get back to you. I think September might be better than June as far as having high passes open - there has been so much snow here this winter, and it's not done yet...
FYI, I posted our current plan here: Bicycling: long-distance, mass-participation rides | | This user would like to thank hillseeker for this useful post:

Ok, enough hijacking of this thread! I have continued the talk about the "pre-season social" here: Cyclist Spring Social (Zurich)
