Fun running in Basel

Is it me, or do most people entering threads on this website want to kill themselves? When you look under running in Basel, you get someone entering their favourite 20 races which are all marathons or lung busters and on another thread you get people running organising groups that start before the birds get up ( 6.30 am start. Are these people Swiss to get up this early ).
I Used to be a qualifed running coach training many people from Beginners to ultra runners in England and still don't get what they get out of running heart attack distances.
I run with the Basel and Zurich Hash Harriers once a month and enjoy this immensley as it is more in forests and as you have to watch for the trails on the floor it takes your mind off your lungs not working correctly. Plus the people are a really good laughand like a beer.

Back to the meaning of the email. I would be intrested in running more in the evenings now the light evenings are coming after once holidays and fasnacht are out of the way, if anyone would like to join me we can run in different locations around basel to keep the runs interesting.
If you are just starting with running and want help, I am happy to point you in the right direction. My theory of running is you show people the basics such as stretching and injury prevention etc and encourage them as much as posible. Also if you run in a group, you take your mind of the running by having a chat and maybe a coffee afterwards.
Also we can set some goals of maybe some stadt laufs ( 5k and 10K )
If your interested, forward your name or any questions and we can maybe put something together starting mid March.

Re: Fun running in Basel

I could go for this as well, "jogging" they call it usually.

I'm a girl and out of shape (round is a shape? ha ha ha) but would like to get back into jogging in the evening. After I learn basics, perhaps the easy joggers would also form.

Jogging/really fast walking in a group also keeps you motivated cuz you want to catch up with Suzie and what happened over the weekend evenings are nice that you're fed up with work but not quite hungry yet for making dinner...

I'm in if you'll have me....

Yeah... couldn't agree more with the original post. I'd be interested if you set something up.. I'm only at the 'trotting around for 30 or 40 minutes' (used to manage an hour and can probably get back to that level quite quickly) level but would like to try and get better with some company.

Re: Fun running in Basel

I would definately be up for some fun running, i agree wholeheartedly with the op and think i would have heart failure if i went running at 6.30am!!! I am much more of an early evening jogger, i could probably manage about an hour as long as its not too fast.

Re: Fun running in Basel

Hi, Yes the Zurich hash website is www.zh3.ch , the next hash is on Saturday, March 7th 2009 at 14.00 , see the website for details.

For all others we can run with mixed abilities when we start. I will work some routes around maybe starting in Lange Erlan which is pretty flat. We can run along the birs and pending on different abilities we cut different people back on the different bridges so we will eventually all finish together.
If you are unfit, don't worry, You have to start somewhere and we can use the soft track to get your muscles warmed up properly before we start.

Re: Fun running in Basel

P.s. If you are thinking of coming along, try and talk a friend into it aswell, the more the merrier.

You don't have to be a good runner to come and I can tell you after a few times of coming you will start to enjoy it and feel the benifit.
Also you can meet new people there and run with them on other days.

Hi All,

Sounds just what I'm looking for as nice and easy will be the definite order of the day for a while until mind, and particularly body, are more amenable to the idea of regular running! Count me in please!

Re: Fun running in Basel

Hi there

I'd be interested too. I am not at all fit though so understand if that rules me out!

Any time from lunchtime onwards suits me (have a German course in the morning).

Hi, I used to do hashes (in Brunei, and in England, once or twice).
I'd love to join you but I live on the Zug side of Zurich (zurich side of zug actually!!)- too far away, I think.
I wonder if they have hashes in Zug?
Cheers

Re: Fun running in Basel

Hi ,
There are 6 official swiss Hash groups, Basel, Zurich, Bern, Geneva, Luzern and Schaffhausen. You can google the names or go on any of the previous mentioned links and go to all Hashes and you will find your nearest there.

Re: Fun running in Basel

Hi,

I'd be up for something - I'm very much a beginner and extremely out of shape so if there were like minded folk willing to walk fast/slow jog of an evening then sounds good

Re: Fun running in Basel

Hi All

Although I would like to start it more sooner, sense tells me that we should wait to start this on Thursday April 2nd. The reason been is the clocks go back the weekend before this. So I would propose the following.

We have mixed abilities here, so we can have two groups, 6.15 to 7pm Beginners and just starting and at 7pm people who would like to do a little more, say 45 mins running. then both people will benifit from this.

We also might have somewhere to run from by the rhine and get a shower afterwards. More later.

If you want to start before this I am happy to set you a program for yourselves which will run from next week till April the 2nd to start to get you motivated.

Any objections to this then say if not I will enter a calendar entry on here for every Thursday night at the above times.

Regards

Running man

Re: Fun running in Basel

No problem. For me, it is a social thing getting to meet new people aswell as helping people get their goals.

I will enter this in the calender then.

For the new runners who want to start, remember jogging 2 times a week is good, but i reccomend 3 times a week as you will improve much quicker.

It is hard at first and you will feel out of breath, but I promise you after the first 2 weeks, it will start to get easier and you will feel the benifit very quickly, not only in your shape, but how you feel about yourselves.
