Ex Pats Ski/Snowboard/Snowsports day 2009

Lets make an official Ski/Snowboard day.

The idea is that as many of us get together to enjoy a day on the slopes before the season ends. Skill level is irrelevant, lets just get together and enjoy the alps.

I have created a doodle to see who is interested, if there is enough interest I will create an event here on the forum for people to RSVP.

I suggest we use a resort that has a wide range of conditions available and is easily accessible by public transport. Somewhere like Klosters would be perfect.

Suggestions and ideas can be posted in this thread. Please have something more constructive then lets go to Flumserberg or Hoch-yBrig.

Klosters 1:48
Lenzerheide 1:53
Flims 1:44
Arosa 2:32
Pizol 1:13
Braunwald 1:49
Elm 1:46

Any other areas?

Good, I left three dates, we can go with the one that suits the most people. In the event of a tie break we'll get Salsa to predict which day the weather will be worst. Then we will go on that day!

I am not sure how many members who would be interested in this event use Snow'n'Rail with Halb Tax, but there are so many possibilities which are worth exploring:

I disagree Jacek, there are surely enough punters on here with cars to arrange pick-ups... with enough notice.... and of course if you like the other folks that want to go. Hell, more than 6 and maybe we could mini-bus it?

It would be more convenient to go by car, but it's not only that. There is a significant saving on a day pass in resort including transport, which might come down cheaper than cost of petrol when driving to the chosen location.

On the other hand you are not wrong there PG, if we could find someone with the minibus or rent one it can also be more economic and cut the costs.

Re: Ex Pats Ski/Snowboard/Snowsports day 2009

Klosters would be fine. But on a Sunday you have to be at the bottom station at 8:15 - 8:30 in good weather, otherwise you'll spend the first 3/4 hour queueing for a ticket and then the cabin. Likewise the car park will be full...

Click on the word "doodle" in the first post. There are three possible dates and we will use the one that the most people can make.

Half the reason why all three dates are Saturdays. Generally a touch quieter then Sundays at the more popular resorts.

I think a day out to see who's who would be fab Eire, and thanks for starting to put it together. If there was enough notice/interest would sticking a Friday in there be and option, less people on the slopes & standing in line etc?

To be honest, I think the biggest rush on the resorts is now over. Most of the Swiss have had their ski season and are happily recovery from the injuries they sustained in their one week of skiing per year. Saturdays are usually (not always the case) quieter then Sundays, and if we get a resort that can distribute any large crowds easily we should not have a huge crowd problem. I don't think too many people will want to use one of their hard earned holiday days for this, but if people say otherwise on this thread then I can add a Friday too.

Sorry, I meant Saturdays - same applies. I suggest meeting at a restaurant on the piste at about 10:00, so that those who want to come late and queue can...

I did warn you before you went!!!

If its any consultation except for when we were connecting to the skilifts we used on Saturday, I think we saw five other skiers the whole day!

Brüder and I didn't have to wait around for the lifts today either!

That is a possibility, but in March I don't think it will be nearly as bad as February. There is also the possibility of going up to the same area from Davos... or we could use another resort like Pizol or Lenzerheide.

I never quite see the point of Davos Parsan, as this adds at least 15 minutes each way to the journey to ski the same area (unless it's Jakobshorn) as you ski from Klosters. Plus the run back down to Klosters must rate as one of the best in Switzerland and the Parsan run down is a steep and often icy black run.

Pizol is not a major resort. But is a good 30 minutes nearer Zurich than Lenzerheide or Klosters (and cheaper), but unless there is snow down to the Rhine valley, which will likely be the case at the end of March, you need to take the cabin down...
