| | | Group bike rides around Lausanne
Many bike shops organize evening group rides, and I thought that I'd collect together some info about the ones that happen in the Lausanne region. The Bike is a shop in Pully (which is about 2km east of Lausanne). - Road rides leave from their shop on Wednesdays, meeting at the shop at 18:20-18:30 and departing at 18:35 sharp. Their website says that the ride is for "all levels," but these tend to be very intense rides and you'll need to be pretty fit already. These rides started on April 1st, 2009.
- The Wednesday event above is for everyone, but on Thursday they also have a "Girls special" ride, also meeting at 18:20-18:30 and departing at 18:35 sharp. These rides started on April 2nd, 2009.
BBR Cycles is a shop in Le Mont-sur-Lausanne (which is about 5km north of Lausanne). - Road rides leave from their shop on Thursdays at 18:30. These rides will start on April 23rd, 2009.
Cyclophile Lausannois are an organization who organize various cycling events around the Lausanne region. - Mountain bike rides leave from Chalet-a-Gobet (which is about 5km northeast of Lausanne) starting at 18:00 every Tuesday. These have already started.
- It does not appear that they organize training rides on the road, but they do organize a local race series on the roads during the Spring on local loops, see here. These have various categories to accommodate all levels of rider.
- They also organize track cycling and cyclocross events, see their website for more info.
Cycles Froidevaux is a shop in Morges (which is about 10km west of Lausanne). - Road rides leave from their shop on Tuesdays at 18:45 sharp. Reasonably fast, and often head into the Jura mountains. These rides started in early April.
If anyone knows of other events, then please post the info below, and I will then update this list.
Most of the participants in these rides will be locals, so the main language will obviously be French, but you may find some English-speakers in the group, and if not then it'll be a good chance to practice your French. I know nothing about the intensity of these rides since I have not yet participated in any. However, I may start doing so, and if I do then I'll update this thread.

I'm informally collecting a list around Zurich. So far, I have rides leaving from Horgen (Velo Club Horgen) and Pfaffikon (Velo Club Pfaffikon). I'll create a new thread with links to their sites, so folks can add to it. There surely must be one leaving that bike shop in Thalwil.

To add, there's a group ride every Tuesday night during summer (started early April) outside Cycles Froidevaux in Morges, Vaud http://www.cycles-froidevaux.ch/inde...ordonn%C3%A9es starts 18:45 sharp and is quite rapid. They usually head into the Juras (light permitting) and back in Morges at dusk.
So far this year I haven't plucked up the courage to get spanked by the locals but will probably start again next Tuesday 28th.

Are there any known group rides on the weekends? Mid-week evenings are not convenient for me.
I would be very interested in doing the journee du velo. Would be good training for the cyclotour two weeks later.

Went to col de la Croix on thursday. Could not reach the top, still too much snow. Passed a few portions on foot, but then the road was just blocked by snow. About 1.5 km from the top, alt 1622 m. Hope it melts quick now, because I have a ride planned with friends on June 14. |

The forecast for Saturday is improving, I might do the 160km road version of the Lausanne Bike Day. Probably hanging out with zimmo and the MTB crowd before, and starting around 9am like them. I'm hoping it will take me about 6 hours.

Was quite desperate until I just saw romandie.ch is forecasting a sunny Saturday!
Can't you start a bit earlier? How can I make your lot out? I will be wearing a "Velotrainer" outfit! But I was planning on starting much earlier.
A friend of mine will have a booth there (cyclo-training). Check him out! he has a "gym" (not quite ready) in Lutry-La Conversion.

Otherwise, I'll be dressed in black and red and riding a Trek Madone. We'll look out for any booth or riders that we see that say 'velotrainer.'

| | | Re: Group bike rides around Lausanne Not going to make it on Saturday but I am thinking of doing this (http://www.cycling-challenge.com/cyclotour-du-leman-la-montagnarde/ ) on the holiday next Thursday 21st May, starting from Morges if anyone is interested on joining me. It is about 100kms including climbs of Col du Marchairuz and Col du Mollendruz. I won’t be setting any cracking pace as I am still finding my legs but should be a good way to celebrate a midweek day off if there is anyone that is not going away for the ‘long weekend’! Cheers KD |

Have not made up my mind as when to start. Starting at 9 means risking not to be allowed to do the 160 km loop, and also not much left at the feeding/drinking stations.
I am sure you can make it for 8.30! |

It's only about 50 km to Cugy, if you can't do that before the noon cutoff (i.e., in 3 hours) then you should certainly consider one of the shorter loops. If I start at 9, then I should be done by 3, I therefore can't see any reason to get up any earlier on Saturday (it will also be colder earlier) - I've already got to leave the house at 8 to do the 30 minutes ride up there and then register.

I am an early bird, and like to start...early.
I did not know Cugy was only 50 km away from the start. No problem then.

Back from the JLV. Started at 8.00, quite a crowd already. Great ride, great weather, great legs!
5h22min for the 150km (not 160 km as advertised) loop! Quite pleased. | |
