Geneva locals, is the Salèv rideable yet?

Hi,

A couple of us from Lausanne are hoping to get out on the mountainbikes this weekend and were thinking of trying the Salève on Sunday. Does anyone more local to Geneva know if it's rideable yet (has the snow gone?) and is the cablecar running?

If so, anyone want to join us? We're planning a cross-country, wobbly-legs start of season type ride, not an armoured up DH plummet...

Cheers!

I think it runs on weekends in the winter. I drove under it a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday. Try the web site.

Why would the status of the ski lift affect your bike ride? I hope you're not planning to do any invalid biking . Have fun!

Re: Geneva locals, is the Salèv rideable yet?

Ok, well it looks like it is running:

April 9.30am - 6.00pm (link)

Beanum found a couple of routes with maps/GPS files here:

Route 1
Distance : 13.9 km
Temps : 2 h
Dénivellation : 550 mètres

Route 2
Distance : 14.8 km
Temps : 2 h 30
Dénivellation : 400 mètres

Route 3
Distance : 8.6 km
Temps : 1 h 30
Dénivellation : 250 mètres

So if we can get these into the GPS, we'll give this a try. There look also to be quite a few routes from the top down, either some full-on DH/Freeride routes, as well as more rando/XC type routes.

I found this site (in french) giving a little review and some videos of the more extreme routes down. Not planning to hit the 3 metre jump for sure link

So...hopefully we find some suitable routes tomorrow. I'll try to remember to post back on what we find.

Re: Geneva locals, is the Salèv rideable yet?

Well...I can't add any more to this thread I'm afraid. Due to various reasons, we ended up staying closer to home and doing a 38km route north of Lausanne, around Chalet-a-Gobet, and winding our way back towards town, as offroad as possible.

It's a nice ride, not technical but has some "cheeky" climbs, some flowing downhills and gets the lungs working (1315m climbing )

Am definitely interesting in trying the route at Saleve though, possibly a mix of routes 2 and 3 as it looks like they pretty much link up...so if anyone is planning to go up there please put a post up.

Cheers,
