Looking for Athletics Clubs or Bootcamps in Basel

Hi,

I am new to the English Forum and quite new to Basel, having been here for only 8 months.

I have moved from Dubai, where I lived for nearly 5 years and while I was there I was a member of a military style Bootcamp, ran by a very crazy ex-navy Aussie guy . Also, when I was younger and at Uni, I used to do sprint hurdles. So with this in mind, I have been looking for some kind of fitness along these lines to do in Basel, but so far I have not found anything. There are a lot of running clubs, but as I am not a long distance runner these are not what I am looking for.

Can anyone advice me of a suitable athletics club or Bootcamp style fitness club in Basel? Unfortunately I can only introduce myself and talk very badly about the weather in German, so I would be looking for an English speaking club.

Thanks so much and I hope someone can help me out!

Emma.

Re: Looking for Athletics Clubs or Bootcamps in Basel

Hi to you both

I was a approached and coach when I first came here for Basel Old boys Athletics club. They are based at schutzenmatte park stadium and I coached several sprinters. But I stopped this after the winter closed season and decided to stick with longer distances runners.
They have a good system, but not totaly English speaking. It depends on what event. Its a shame you couldn't integrate with the International school as they I am told have a good Athletics program.

Regards

Running Man.

P.s.what type of training do you actually want as Basel rugby club all speak english and they can beast you.

Re: Looking for Athletics Clubs or Bootcamps in Basel

Hi,

Sorry, I have been in the UK and had limited access to my emails. I have not had any luck so far finding athletics clubs, but I will email the BSC Old Boys Club, so thanks for that.

I had previoulsy called the Rugby club, but the ladies coach hasn't called me back yet, but then being in the UK I didnt have my Swiss phone on, so will need to chase that up.

With regards to the type of training I am looking for, while at Bootcamp, it was strength, endurance and speed training etc, so covered everything. When I was younger (I am now 29), I used to do Sprint Hurdles, and although I'm not sure if hurdles is for me anymore, I would be looking for the training for sprinters as appossed to long distance.

Thanks again for advice and help,

Emma.

Re: Looking for Athletics Clubs or Bootcamps in Basel

hi,

There is a Crossfit gym which does training sessions comprising strength, agility and stamina - not speed per se. Crossfit was developed initilally to train firefighters and forces personnel as it's an 'all round' fitness rather than a focus on one specific sport. The website is www.crossfitbasel.ch, they all speak English and training is done both in German and English. You train in groups, not independently and it's in Dreispitz. It might be more of what you're looking for rather than a conventional gym, though not focused on running training. Men and women there, all ages, mixed abilities, welcoming environment...
