| | | Martial Arts, Self Defense in Riehen (Basel) - Open Air training mate wanted!
Hi everybody,
I live in Riehen, moved here 6 months ago from Italy.
I'm looking for someone to practice Martial Arts open-air in Wenkenhof Park.
Beacause of my job I have no time to go to a Gym in Basel.
I was a Thai Boxing instructor in Italy and I have a background of Judo and Karate as well.
I don't want to set-up a "Fight Club", don't worry. If you have practiced in the past or simply want to learn, that's fine.

Well it's a bit scary to some- would anyone like to meet a Thai boxer in a park, in the evening. No experience necessary, he just needs some target practice to relieve frustrations at work? Actually I wouldn't mind holding targets for you as long as you would do the same for me, but I live in the US. Perhaps you could give people a little more insight into what to expect? How do start teaching someone the art of Thai boxing

Good point. Thanks for the suggestion.
It will be basically a 60-75 minute training session with basic warm up, 30' running, crunches, jumping rope, stretching and the rest will be 1 to 1 sparring
and/or fighting techniques.
If you are absolute beginners I could teach you gradually to use all the " weapons of Muhai Thai" fists, elbows, knees, shins, feet and head.

Hi Prius,
Good idea. I am interested. I am also looking for any reality based self defence or MMA training in Basel. Anybody know of a good school?
Cheers,
Eric

Are girls allowed??
I'm not able to join you at the moment but will definately be up for it once I've had my baby!! I did kickboxing in the UK for 5 years before moving here and did semi-competetive karate for 6 years before that.
I live in Riehen too so location would be perfect for me!

Wow it seems we could have soon a nice group!
Ok let's be practical:
I will be on vacation from this thursday 16 jul until August 8th.
We can start with an introductory meeting (eg. a BBQ party) at Wenkehof Park in Riehn just to know eachother and set a schedule for letting this thing happen.
For your info, in Riehen we also have a free access open-air Gym with weights, benches and a 1 Km jogging track in the woods.
Ladies are more than welcome.
The Basel Expats Fight Club...
Andrea

It's in the woods up from Bettingerstrasse (opposite side of Wenkehof Park).
You can get off from the bus 32 at Wenkenhof and than walk 800 m straight from there.

| | | Introductory Meeting/bbq: Saturday Aug 8th - Riehen
Dear all,
first of all thank you for your interest in this initiative.
It's time to start and maybe it would be nice to get together to know each other and start arranging our schedules.
Is it ok for you to meet this saturday for a BBQ in Riehen? An alternative could be Sunday 9th.
Cheers
Andrea

Hey Andrea. This Sat there is a street parade in Zurich so won't be able to make it but maybe the following one works? Chances are you are going to struggle to find a day that suits EVERYONE. so maybe get a day where at least a few can make it and go from there. Hell once you have classes going then it should pick up from there?

Once again, W E L C O ME !
FOR ALL OF YOU THAT ARE INTERESTED:
It seems that the introductory meeting planned for this saturday is not gonna work.
We can alternatively schedule that for next saturday.
However, if even 2-3 for of you want to come and get a feeling of what the training will be, please confirm your attendance here and we can have a 90 mins session of explanations (equipment etc)+ propedeutic training.

Might actually be able to attend that now. Seems the street festival is for rave music and attracts HUGE crowds. Not in the mood to feel crushed by large quantities of rather smelly boys and girls blowing whistles.
What's your address. and what time. will confirm later today.

That's good news!
You can get to Riehen by Tram number 6 - Stop Bettingerstrasse
Then take bus 32 (just across the street, behind the corner.
Stop at Wenkenhof.
What time would be more convenient for you?
Morning or afternoon?
