This week we will be having a number of new runners starting, so it is a perfect time to commit yourself to a new routine.

Hi Leonie

The After work running club is becoming very popular in Basel. We run every Thursday at 18.30 from under the Wettsteinebruke (on the Munster side)
We are after, only 6 weeks having regularly 20 people plus coming, from many different companies and many different nationalities.

We run 3 levels of groups, I was a qualified UK athletics coach in the UK and normaly take the beginners group, but now and again switch groups to see how the progress of other runners is going.
Then we have a 30 - 40 minute group, steady pace and then another group of the same time, but abit faster.

We have Secure modern excellent shower facilities in our club house and a bar for a drink or two afterwards and a chat with other runners.

We charge only 15 chf per month membership to cover the club/shower hire costs.

We also soon will be setting some targets i.e. 5k , 10k and half marathon events over the year.

We are a very friendly bunch and our motto is we work hard, but should enjoy what we do and what we achieve.
Oh yes we also have a meal out together after running on the last Thursday of the month.

Please see the calendar for Thursdays event and if you are interested sign on for this week.

Look forward to meeting you.

Martin ( Running Man )

I can't wait!

I'm moving to Basel in September, and I'm looking forward to a smooth fitness transition (been training and racing triathlons in Victoria, Canada).

See you soon!

The club has grown quite a bit since this thread started. There is now a website, check it out.... www.baselrunning.ch ....All the above still applies. Sounds like you may also be interested in the early morning running group if you are an early riser. Look for posts by bostonivy about the Regents Harriers.

Hiya, this is my first post on the forums after searching about triathlon training. Do the running club allow people of all ages? I'm 17 yrs old, I'd probably class myself in your intermediate group but I would love to get into the faster group. My aim is to do a few triathlons in England next year so would be nice to have some people to do running and cycling training with between the time. You all seem like very nice people and would love to be able to join you so I can get fitter and do a couple of triathlons next summer.

Hi Ollie

Come and run this Thursday, the age is not a problem I wont make you run any extra hills for been young, although I remember been young once
There is a good mixed age group and a very freindly enviroment to train in, as well as we have some tri atheletes and mountain runners in the faster groups, who you can pick up lots of tips from.

Also from the 31st we have 2 sessions a week, so the Mondays we might mix up some speed and hill sessions as well as fartlek (Sweedish word for speed play) and technique sessions.

Looking forward to you joining us, the 10 minute thing is to make sure you can get to the first stretch point before we take you through a stretch routine to make sure you get no early on injuries, then we start the rest of the session, but most people find it enjoyable. especially the beer after.

I'm afraid I can't come this week as I have some friendS coming out from the uk, from thursday through till monday. I will be able to make next thursdays and burn off all those beer calories that were consumed at the weekend.

I have done fartleks before as part of my rugby training that I used to do. So I guess I'll see you next week

I plan to come along tonight if not too late notice? I've done a couple of Marathons before but not much running recently so guess will start up in the intermediate class. Looking forward to meeting the Dragons

For sure you are welcome tomnight, we have about 5 new runners coming tonight so it should be fun, although it will not be that far, maybe 6 to 8 K max in this heat for the more experienced groups and many water fountains.

See you tonight
