collapsable canoe/kayak, where ?

Hello,

I am thinking about getting a 1-person canoe/kayak, something which can easily be transported. Last week I saw one which was built using (aluminium ?) tubes and some sort of canvas like material. It used tent-like construction, tubes with joint to make the boat shape and then the whole thing was covered with canvas. Looked very portable, small to transport and much more rigid and sturdy than an inflatable one.
Stupid me, I didn't look at the brand of the boat, so now my question, where can I look at / order / buy such a boat ? Maybe online ?

Thanks,

Bas

Re: collapsable canoe/kayak, where ?

For people interested, I found out that a collapsable kayak is called a 'feltboote'. Looking for this on the internet showed me lots of options for buying multi-1000 chf kayaks.
As I am not a fat capitalist banker driving Maseraties and what not I decided to build my own from wood (not collapsable but hey, got to start somewhere) using the guide I found on http://yostwerks.com/ .
I am going for a 13 ft Sea Tour 13 as this size will still fit inside my car. Building cost should be around chf 200, I plan to buy everything at the Jumbo (wood for hull construction and PVC foil for covering). The foil for covering is 'teichfolie', foil for making a pond.
I've never kayaked before, never made such a complex wood-building project so it'll be lots of fun, plus I get a change to use my new (99chf) electric jigsaw

Re: collapsable canoe/kayak, where ?

For future reference, I've asked a friend of mine who is into canoe expeditions:

He ordered his collapsable kayak at unterwegs.ch in Aargau. Apparently they'll close the shop in September and move to Zurich next year. He bought a Feathercraft kayak (4000.- plus 3000.- for an extra hole and further customisation plus 800.- for paddles) which is still going strong after 1200 km. Another shop he recommends is globetrotter.de.

Other good brands, some of them focussing on other boats than collapsable canoes, are: Nautiraid, Klepper, Kahuna and Ally.
