| | | Trails - Cycling/MTB/Hiking/Skating/Canoeing
This Swiss Trails Site gives a wealth of information about long distance trails for the various sports listed above.
What particularly appealed to us for our hiking was the luggage transport from one hotel to the next which enabled us to carry just a lightweight 'day rucksack'.
However, this isn't a plug for the firm but should give 'newcomers' to Switzerland a few ideas about places where they can enjoy their chosen sport. There are also a couple of links which may prove useful to those of us who are 'old hands' here.
I hope you enjoy clicking your way through it!

With regards to luggage transport, anyone can bring their bags to a train station in the morning and pick them up at any other train station in Switzerland that evening for something like 10CHF.
I discovered this while doing a 3 day bike tour last year. It's really handy. | | The following 2 users would like to thank Eire for this useful post: | |

Apart from the Trails, there are, of course, plenty of other places where the sports mentioned above can be enjoyed.
Here are a few more sites which all come under Switzerland Mobility.
I appreciate that these links have probably been given on the Forum before, but especially for newcomers, who have enough other things on their minds, it will be quicker having as much information as possible in one place. Canoeing, Cycling, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Skating.
Personal recommendations from Forum members are great and with these Sites to give additional information, there'll be no stopping us. |

Longbyt, it might be a good idea to ask a mod to make your GPS hikes thread a sticky.

Thanks for the links. I should really have put them into my post myself to guide folk in the right direction.
The Threads you give have really informative personal-experience details and just what folk need to know.
My 'add-on' post on this Thread gives Info sites with no 'inside' tips. I just liked the idea of the overview of the whole of Switzerland...

super info, my mum and I (she is 70 plus and puts me to shame fitness wise) are having a girls walking weekend in July so these are great route tips.
Has anyone done the walk over the rope bridge in Oberhasli in the Trift valley? http://www.myswitzerland.com/en.cfm/...elt-44937.html
I'm under strict instructions from my dad "not to kill her or let her do anything stupid" - so would be interested if anyone has done this route up to the Mountain Hut.?

There is another hut near the Trift bridge on the same side which we went to though. The hike is quite nice, but it is relatively strenuous. You certainly need to be quite secure on your feet and be comfortable hiking up and down over fairly rough ground for about 1.5 hours from the top of the cable car.
It is beautiful up there though.

Let me add some resources for the Valais, the only part of the country that I know well.
The Valais Tourist Office has a series of excellent brochures, available online, though I prefer to order the free printed versions from here. These brochures include five that describe hikes: - Hiking, which describes, best I can tell, easier hikes
- Tours, which describes a large number of multi day tours, most of which are (or at least have parts that are) more strenuous
- Waterside Walks, walks along the historic channels which bring water to the vineyards (bisses in French).
- Themantic Hikes, a brochure that I have not looked at.
- Winter Hikes which, judging from the distances, seem rather tame to me
I have used the Tours brochure extensively in planning my version of the Haute Route, and done one of the Waterside hikes, which I enjoyed immensely.
There are no language issues; little text, maps and numeric information (distance, elevation gain, hiking time, public transport, differs from brochure to brochure).
Happy hiking!
