Basel Dragon Boat rowers wanted

Dear All

A quick shout out for my Dragon Boat colleagues at the Basel dragon boat club.

I have been rowing with them every Wednesday evening on the river Rhine at 18.30pm for the past year now.

If you fancy coming along and giving it a go for free, put some clothes that you don't mind getting wet and just turn up any Wednesday evening.

There are showers available afterwards and it is a good group of mixed backgrounds, but a large number of English speaking of people.

Everyone is welcome and again it is free to try.

To find where it is if you go on the website below and click on the map we meet at the same venue as the running club.

If you want when you arrive ask for Martin and I will be there.

Re: Basel Dragon Boat rowers wanted

Hey Martin,

I'm new to Basel and would like to take you up on your rowing offer. Is there room for one (possibly two) more this Wednesday (July 29) evening?

I got really excited about boating on the Rhine while on a run. I saw the locals out in the morning in the long "canoes". Do you know what they are called and if one could learn/rent/try them? They were oared by a single oar by a peson standing in the back. To go upriver they had a long shaft with a metal gaft on the end for pushing. I'd love to find out more and in the meantime try rowing with your group!

Thanks so much,
Brian

Hi Brian

Yes I will be there on the 29th July. We do the 20 people in one boat Dragon boat, this is under the munster side of the wetsteinbruke and is great fun. On the 29th is the last day of training for the August the first race day and many people will be there. I would recomend coming the week after as there will be many people on the 29th getting the last minute practice in. Then it will be more relaxed and more fun.
On the single punt boats on the other side of the river this ia called the rudder club. mostly training I believe is in German, so If your language is up to scratch this will be ok.
Any other questions, please ask.

Hi,
Sounds excellent. I'd be interested to try it out on the 5th August. I've done it once before in the UK and it was excellent fun.
Cheers,
Caroline

The silver coast, it's opposite from the gold-coast (which, I found on the internet, has a team in Meilen). I didn't find a team in Kilchberg/Thalwil/Horgen though

Hey that's cool!
I love rowing and I would like to join you on Wed 12th August.
I'm a windsurfer and when there's no wind blowing I use to go rowing "hawaian-style" for miles with one of my old longboards.
See you soon!

hahaha were you the "the sooner we get out, the sooner we can get a beer man"?
WHat a brilliant night. Your leader "Eris"? is not well but so much fun. Good bunch of people!!!
About the running. I actually went out running just before the dragon boating but got horrendously lost and as a result ran a lot farther than I anticipated. So I missed thursday as my legs were buggered! Sorry be there for the next one though.
