Thanks for that Eire (how do you thank people? i was struggling to thank MattM earlier then ended up on some other forum topic and now want to thank a second time and can't! argh!)...

how far is metabief from zurich? maybe that could be a spot? unfortunately i only really know the french part of swissy - does the Berner Oberland have anything? Or do you know anywhere else which would be quite central for all? that is of course if there are others who would be interested?
There are trails that can be accessed by lifts in the Berner Oberland, but I don't know the area too well. Wallis might also be a possiblilty. A bit of a trek for the Zurchers but if there are good trails down there I believe.

Graubunden also has a huge trail network, but that is a trek for those from Swiss Romandie. I know a huge amount of trails in this area though.

As for the thanking, you need to have 10 posts before you get the Thanks/Groan feature.

Re: Downhill/Freeride Mountain Bike Days

ahhhhh i'll have to keep posting then!

wallis is incredible - so many trails everywhere... i tend to head to portes du soleil every weekend as there is a lot of choice...

i'll speak with some swissy people who bike and see if i can find out anything more about the trails up in the berner oberland - will keep you updated if i make any incredible discoveries! even if you don't know the area well, maybe would still be good to get to know it better! then we can't put the blame on just one person for going down an incredibly steep black run... heheheh!

then again, if there are other romandiers wanting to try out some new places, there's always the possibility of staying up in dütschschwiiz for a night and heading to Graubunden the next day? suppose best plan is to see who else from down here would want to go.... any takers?

A bit of a shock when you come out of the woods and are faced with about 300 sheep on the trail!

Re: Downhill/Freeride Mountain Bike Days

hey guys!
is anyone going to morzine/pds the next few weeks?
i'm looking for some decent singletrail/downhill action with lift support..
i still leave out the skinniest lines and big jumps/drops , but otherwise my driving skills are not too bad.
would be great to join some people who know the trails.
can somebody recomment a camping site nearby?

Re: Downhill/Freeride Mountain Bike Days

Hey Guys, I'm new to MTB'ing, the Forums, and only 8months in CH.
I live in Zurich and do the Uetliberg, Pizza Cup and Spagetti trail often. I'm looking for something a little longer, challenging, and hopefully lift serviced so I can ride all day Also something not too far from Zurich, as train prices are soo expensive (Being unemployed atm doesn't help). Can someone suggest something close by. I would also love to go out and ride with other people, always better in a group

Thanks in advance and HI to everyone

Ryan

2nd that! I'm new to Zurich and been to Uetliberg a couple of times... I was thinking of heading to Filzbach this weekend to see how crazy it is over there (not sure the Meta 5 will cope with the million metre drops and gaps...at least with me riding it! shoulda gone for the miniDH or Supreme).

Does anybody know if there are (should I say this out loud?) chicken runs so you can least have a fast flowy descent?

I've ridden Filzbach a few times on a bike quite similar to the Meta 5. Its not a problem and in general the chicken line is the straight through line and you have to deviate from the course a little to get onto the big drops etc.

Actually come to think of it, I've also ridden it on a 100mm travel XC bike.

Radbar in Schmerikon does I think. Not open Sundays though. I think the shops a the bottom of the lift in places like Flims will do it too.

I don't think the cable car runs from Mursteg anymore during the summer. I did one of the trails down from there years ago when the cablecar ran and it was essentially a fireroad. The other option is quite technical I believe.

From Flims Naraus the main trail down is pretty technical and constantly changing as you go down. despite it being mainly downhill it takes a good bit out of you.

If you are looking for something not too technical with very little uphill effort then I reckon some of the trails around Lenzerheide and Davos might be better suited. You can use the cable cars and then descend on mainly fireroads or single trails which are not as technical (in some cases).

Having said that. The trail from Naraus to Flims is wicked fun.
