Not really sure if this is the right place to post this but have just arrived in Zurich and am wondering if anyone is up for showing a newbie (both to Zurich and mountain biking) round some of MTB trails around town (or finding them together if you're also new).
Do you need a full suspension bike for these trails or are there some where you can ride a hard tail?
I am thinking of bringing the bike over when I come to Zurich to visit the sister next year and doing some trails. But that wont be until next April/May.
Only just seen your message. I am also relatively new to Zurich and very new to mountain biking but this weekend I went up and down the Uetliberg in Zurich by mountain bike and would highly recommend it. You can find details of the route on here if you search the old threads. I will be around on Sundays from the weekend after this one in case you are looking for someone to join you.

Depends on how fast you like to go. I would say a full suspension would make the trail a lot more fun, even more so when you get up into the alps.
Did anyone watch this? "How does Danny Hart sit down with balls that big?"
I have older trek fuel 100 oclv and a mongoose(walmart) blackcomb with rockshox sid and rst first air.Does any one think that those bikes are sufficient enough to bring back to switzerland with me.?This question is for someone that does xc downhill and not extreme freeride.

No. Do not bring your walmart bike here unless you use it as a city bike. You NEED at a minimum a bike with good brakes (hydraulic). Even the xc trails can get steep and rough. There are two kinds of mongoose bikes, the real ones which are good quality bikes and the ones at walmart which have a mongoose sticker but not made by mongoose. These bikes are not built for anything other than flat gravel paved hiking trails. I would buy a decent bike in the U.S as it is much cheaper than here.
Who wants to go ride in Bern? It might cost you 20,000 CHF
From google translate. The revision of the cantonal forest law wants the canton of Bern, the mountain bikers nationwide ban on the singletrack. Come by the revised law, the future can be fined Mountain bikers on singletrack with up to 20,000 francs.
The bill, which is now out for consultation, contains the following articles: "Horse riding and cycling in the forest outside of specially designated forest roads and paths and trails is prohibited." Until now only prohibited from cycling off roads. Article 46 of the bill twice after: "With the coaches will be penalized up to 20,000 francs, who willfully away from forest roads and specially designated trails and bike rides or runs punchlines."
This is bad news all the way around and not unusual considering similar laws are being enacted up and down the east coast of the United states. The hikers here in the D.C metro area are at war with the bikers.I have heard that the popularity of mountainbiking in and around Bern is off the charts.Hopefully the Gurten trail will still be open.
