| | | Lose weight (Basel)
Hi folks
I've read four to five interesting posts about loosing weight (seems to a frequently appearing topic here).
I'm actually some sort of "couch potato" so I quit playing badminton last summer - the result was an additional 3 kilos (1.73m 67kg now). That's why I'm searching for someone to do sports with
I don't like the majority of popular team sports (hockey, soccer, and so forth), but I'm open to suggestions
Oh and sometimes people set value on the age - I'm 22.
Thanks in advance for answers!
Best wishes
Dodi
PS: That's my first post here, therefore a big "Hello World" to you all!

Referring to Lose not loose I correct the the "loose" to "lose"

Another 1.73'er here!
I am 73 kgs, btw, so dont see you as being overweight!
Also, would be open to a game of badminton sometime, or even a long run in the mountains.
I am 28, a bit older.

I say: try crossfit. I started doing it about a year and a half ago and I haven't done a normal gym workout since.
The workouts are constantly varied and fun and you'll learn a bunch of new skills (jump rope dubble unders, hand stand push ups, muscle ups...)
You're also lucky, Basel has the first (?) crossfit gym in Switzerland. Check out www.crossfitbasel.ch
I'd love to be able to train at a facility tailored for crossfit, but the nice part is that you don't need a lot of equipment to do it in a basic form.
Check out www.crossfit.com and if you have any questions, just send me a PM.

Hehe this is a joke! ^^
You have missed that I'm kinda couch potatoe. For me, your crossfit looks like torture :P
Maybe I have to point out that I'm rather looking for someone to play with regularly, not every now and then. (maybe 1-2 times a week)
Thanks for all answers
Best wishes

Hehe... well, it wasn't intended as a joke. Between 'couch potato' and 'weight loss', I figured one would have to give in to the other.
I do know that the 'step in' into crossfit can seem high. There is a site posting scaled versions of the main site workout: www.crossfitbrandx.com. Go to 'forum' and then 'CrossFit WOD' you find a beginners version.
Anyway, it was my suggestion. If it's not your cup of tea that's fine. Hope you find what you're looking for. |

| | | Re: Lose weight (Basel) SWIMMING is it! 1km/day swimming and i lost 4kg in 5-6weeks without changing eating, drinking, any consumption. and more to come, i guess.
besides its the best for your bones and best sport to be done in summer.
i go 1km in now 17minutes, depending on fitness of day. can be 20-22 minutes.
im 33, 185cm, had 92 kgs, now 87.5kgs. aim is to have 85kgs constantly.

@cesar If I'd do it, I'd for sure lose my weight - agreed. Still unfortunately it's not quite what I'm searching
But anyway thanks for your suggestion
@flow
swimming sounds cool too. I swam in the rhine every now and then last year.
So swimming would be an option |

I'm surprised that Running Man hasn't found this thread yet....There is a running group that meets every Thursday (soon Mondays also) for a run. There are four levels, from absolute beginner to slightly advanced. It's very social. There are change rooms that lock and have showers, so you don't need to worry about having a car to lock up your gear while you run. There is also a bar there, so we have a drink or two after the run. This week, we are all going out for dinner after the run and all are welcome there also. The website is www.baselrunning.ch.

Hmm running... well, I could imagine doing it twosome - rather not in a big group.
But that would be an option too
So if there's someone in basel, from 20 to 35, who wants to play badminton, go running or swimming shall pm me
Thanks again for all the suggestions

but are you really going for a work-out-swim or a dip to cool off?
i mean, i really focus on going on max. speed as long as i can!
i notice (and still do) that my pulse is pretty high and after i come out of the pool i feel exhausted. the interesting thing is that after 20min of rest it gives me a boost for the rest of day at work, which is amazing (am going during lunch time)! i recommend to look out for a pool with 50m length n swimm 20 tracks on max. level. make the occasion to your daily routine, like brushing your teeth! i have to say that when i didnt go for a while (bad wether caused eg.) i really miss it. i need it! to team up with somebody is ok, but only to get pushed and into gears. but i find you need to focus on yourself because wether im too fast or to slow, so i need to go my own tempo for best results...

I was also going to recommend CrossFit, which is great for losing fat and developing world-class fitness. And, as cesar pointed out the first official CrossFit Gym in Switzerland is near you: CrossFit Basel
It certainly does take an investment from your side, but with CrossFit this is much easier due to the community in the gyms.
Oh, and welcome to EF |

Ï've been swimming regularly now for close to 3 years. Started with 250 meters, 1x weekly, gasping for breath and feeling terribly heroic. Now do 1 km two or three times a week. As flow23 said, without changing eating habits too dramatically or getting all red-in-the-face and puffy, I lost 10 kgs over the first year. Now I can keep my weight nicely without having to miss out on all the goodies | | This user would like to thank möpp for this useful post: | |

@attalus yeye got that with CrossFit ^^
@Angela-74 E.g. just by the joggeli (St. Jakob) centre. There's one outside and indoor.
@möpp Sure, I believe that. Would definitely be worth a try
Now all I need is someone who'll join me ^^
