Indoor climbing partner on tuesday and thursday

Hello all,

I am looking for a climbing partner here in Zurich for weekly indoor climbing. My plan is to go every tuesday and thursday at the evening (around 19h00m).
Of course that we can manage the hour and even the day.

Currently I am leading 4c / 5a, so nothing really amazing...

Regards,
Laerte

Hey Laerte,
Where do you climb in Zurich? I brought my stuff from Canada but I have not had the chance to climb yet.

Hello, I was excited to see your post. I moved to Zurich about a month ago and I have been going to Kletterzentrum (in Schlieren) once or twice a week. I went to Milandia once and it was great too, so I don't mind going to either of them. I have to admit, I mostly enjoy bouldering, but I'm eager to do some roped climbing also. I did not bring a rope with me from back home, but I am planning to purchase one here soon. I think you need to use your own rope at the gym, is that correct? I do have a rack of draws and trad gear and would like to get outside somewhere, someday anyway. So in summary, I am definitely interested in trying to meet more climbers. This is also my first post ever on the forums so I'm just getting familiar with how to communicate with everyone. Hope to do some climbing soon!

Hey, welcome here.

I noticed that you are at the Univ. This means you will have access to ASVZ. They conduct training courses at both these locations; they provide the rope also. It should be available to the public also, perhaps for a higher cost.

Basically I have some basic fitness/exposure to climbing on walls and natural rock, quite basic I guess, and have been wanting to practice in Zurich once a week or so, and improve. I found it very tiring to navigate the website which is in German, and coordinate with them, so I never went there. They said they can conduct a course in English if atleast 4 English speakers sign up; I have one colleague who seemed interested to join me, but that's where we got stuck.

The idea is, we do one basic course, more like an ice-breaker, physically meet potential partners, and then take it further on our own.

Re: Indoor climbing partner on tuesday and thursday

Hello climbers,

I just moved (back) to Zurich and I'm also looking for a climber partner (or a group of climbers) for regular indoor climbing, preferably at Milandia (it's just not as cold in there as in Gaswerk). Wednesday or Thursday evening would be ideal for me. I climb 5.11 and while I don't mind climbing with 5.7 climbers (just be prepared to be coached, whether you like it or not), I'm especially interested in climbing with someone at my level (or better). I also like to climb outdoors, but I guess the season is over now.

- Stephan

note: if you like to boulder, also try minimum bouldering.
note 2: i speak german so if anyone has questions about the website (can't believe they raised the prices, probably a good idea to get a membership until the price for that goes up as well) etc, ask me.
note 3: if you are member of asvz (not sure if you also have to be a student) i believe prices are 8 chf if you get in before 12am and exit before 5pm, 5 chf if you enter after 12am and leave before 5pm, both mo-fr. 8 chf on saturdays.

Re: Indoor climbing partner on tuesday and thursday

Hi. I'm interested in doing this. I've only tried climbing on indoor walls about 3 or 4 times so don't have much experience. Any other beginners/newbies interested in trying this out together?

Hi Steple,
That was an extremely useful post, especially given that it was your first post on the forum Welcome to EF

I think it would be good if we all meet up next Wed or Thu and discuss how to proceed. Will be happy to post an event on the EF calendar if these days are fine for you guys.

After the first session we are free to stick to compatible partners or whatever.

ASVZ membership is free for students upto and including Phd. Staff, including post docs have to pay 150 CHF annual memberhsip fee. Addiditional costs as applicable for individual sports. ASVZ is only for UZH and ETH community including alumni and spouses.

Re: Indoor climbing partner on tuesday and thursday

Thanks.

I think ideally there would be a weekly EF climbing meeting. Whoever feels like climbing shows up. No hassle like "i'm coming - are you coming" etc. I would prefer that over fixed partners.

It would be excellent if we can do something of that sort for climbing.

Currently, Wednesdays are booked by Zurich Running Group. The Zurich Thursday Night Ride group, I believe, will cease for the winter, so Thursday seems the best choice for this. I can make it in the evenings, the earlier the better.

Just my thoughts; it would be great if you can decide something and post an event, as you seem to have a better idea on this. Once we meet up we can always fine-tune.

Hi,
Are people meeting at a wall during the week? If so let me know as I would like to come along and have plenty of previous climbing experience.

Hi all, we have a google group set up, as it got a bit cumbersome organising via the forum/email. You can join from here
http://groups.google.com/group/climbing-zh .

Unfortunately I am still out with bad hand

Meeting once or twice a week at Schlieren.

Cheers, Ali

ps Hi Tim, welcome back
