Football (soccer): youth leagues, referees etc

I am in the USA, may move to the Zurich area soon. Here in the US I have been a Soccer Referee for about 14 years now, and am still active. I officiate in the fall and spring, indoor in winter, and do summer tournaments - so its a big part of my life.

Are their youth leagues there? If so, does anyone know a referee they could refer me to, or have additional information. What I am so anxious to know is whether I will have to give up this big part of my life if I move there.

My German is fairly good, I have actually refereed a German team at a tournament, but leider I don't speak the Swiss dialect so maybe that's a killer.

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

If you check the website www.football.ch as this is the site for "FOOTBALL" in Switzerland.

There are small local leagues as well as youth.

Im sure with German you will be fine, it doesnt always have to be Swiss German. If your German is good/ok you should be able to direct yourself around the site and on the pitch.

Otherwise simply contact them directly and see what is possible.

Lee
P.S. sorry for the bold writting but this side of the ocean its called football!

Do bare in mind that there is no central federation at amateur level, so if you have an idea as to where you will live, go in the Regional Verbaende section and choose the Verband you'll be part of and contact them.

I'm pretty sure you will have no problems finding games to ref, there is a chronic shortage of refs.

The football season in the amateurs league goes from early August until early December, then winter break, then it restarts early March up until June. There is not that much indoor football I'm afraid.
