Keeping a Horse in Vaud

Hi,

I have just moved to Aubonnne from London and am after some advice/ recommendations re: keeping a horse in this area of Vaud. Can you recommend a yard? How does livery work here (what's included, turn-out, routines etc), and approximate costs?

I have left my horse in London on loan whilst we get settled and establish the practicalities of bringing him over. I have found a few places from driving around and searching the web but would appreciate some advice!

Also, can you recommend a yard for riding lessons in the interim? Preferably with an English speaking instructor or group as my french is still pretty poor!

Many thanks

Honestly, I've looked hard about horses and Vaud but could not come up with anything useful to you. Perhaps someone else in the forum can assist in the French speaking parts.

Re: Keeping a Horse in Vaud

Hi!

I ride regularly at a place up in St George: http://ranchzangalisa.free.fr/index2.html

generally we hack out for 2-3 hours on a Sunday afternoon through the woods. He does do lessons too but I've never had one with him and so can't comment on that.

There is the possibility of livery too, which you should find info. about on the website. From what I've seen of the horses there and from the way Andre (the guy who owns the place) is with them, I would say that they are excellently cared for.

If you want to know any more about the place then please let me know - I'll be off up there on Sunday.

I'm pretty sure that livery can also be arranged at http://www.manege.ch/ which is the riding school in Gimel. The lady there is American. My daughter has had lessons there and it seems very nice. There is also: http://www.ecuriedesdudes.ch/ which is in Essertines sur Rolle. Have never ridden there so cant say much about it but do have a friend who keeps a horse there.

Hope this is of some help to you, let me know if I can help in any other way and hope you manage to get your horse out here.

Thanks Emma,

Just what I have been looking for. Do you have to ride in a organised group or will they let you take the horse out alone (after proving you know what you are doing)?

Re: Keeping a Horse in Vaud

I've always been out in a group there and dont know if he would allow you to go it alone. The Sunday afternoon group is usually made up of about 10 riders all of whom seem very nice and it gives me good opportunity to practice my French!!!

Re: Keeping a Horse in Vaud

Hello I have a stable at home.

I take in "pensionnaires" for 450 CHF per month. This includes feed (natural mix of grains), stable with straw bedding, hay 4x a day. The horses are turned out in the pastures every day. Possibility to have riding lessons or have your horse professionally ridden. I also go hacking with my horse on the weekend. Beautiful rides in the forest.

We're in Servion but probably a bit far for you. But we do have a spare stable now if anyone's interested?

Elise
