Ski Virgin- Any complete novice like me want to learn in a group?

Hi, Having missed the big ski meet up in the Irish pub on Thursday evening ( would have felt quite at home there ( it being an "Irish" pub!)
I want to learn to ski in a group in possibly in Flumserberg and am looking for like minded others who are complete novice's and want to learn too.
Would like to start off with just one day!!

Feel free to drop me a PM if interested.

I'm slightly above novice but I read your post and had a few thoughts...

I took lessons last winter at Flumserberg and it was great! Word of advice...after the first group lesson you may want to do private lessons. You learn so much faster with the one on one lessons. I also recommend going for the longer lesson instead of the shorter one. By the time you get on the slope there isn't much time for instruction/learning with the shorter lesson. I did a lesson first thing in the morning and then practiced in the afternoon. Let me know when you guys get a group together to ski!

HAVE FUN!!!

Try to find a resort that has fairly flat slopes. You'll be surprised how quickly you learn if you can keep the level of fear to a minimum.

The easiest is to take a daily bus to a ski resort. The buses leave Saturday/Sunday usually at 7 am, and return in the evening. The price includes bus trip and day ski pass. In the Züri-Tipp there are adds of buslines. On arrival you can rent equipment from a local ski shop. I am sure that already on the bus trip you will find many nice guys willing to tell you how to proceed. Good luck.

Vijaya is correct, any of these deals like snow 'n' rail are very handy and good value, until you get to the slopes..... to find the rest of Zurich there. Sometimes go 20 minutes out of these areas and you get much quieter slopes which makes learning less fraught. So if a group get together and sort a mobility car, or watch the threads for someone with a car whose going out, then you have much more scope. Downside is you may not always find lessons there, or as good a choice in ski hire facilities, and spots for some apres.

For learning, Flumserberg has good facilities, good access to instructors and ski rental, and plenty of places to eat and drink. The pistes are well prepared, and there is a good variety of slope for beginners that will allow you to develope, in an area that you know. So for those reasons, together with it's ease of access, it does get very busy. Saturday morning would be my tip, as it's changeover day for folks starting/leaving ski holidays, and the Zurchers are doing the domestic things so it tends to be a little quieter.

Hi,

I have been once in Flumserberg and indeed it had good facilities to learn ski. But I am thinking to go and stay one week in Zermatt and learn ski. Is Zermatt as good as Flumserberg for learning ski ? Or what piste would you recommend the most for learning ski (location doesn't matter)?

Thanks indeed,
