Does anybody know if there is a single point of information that lists all the opening dates of the ski resorts? I have been searching around but other than a useful list of open resorts at http://www.onthesnow.co.uk/open_resorts_all_eu
I cannot find the opening dates without going into each resort website.

Resorts have the official opening dates but most open before hand snow dependent, we skied in November at the weekend last year before they opened all the lifts a little later, its best if you want to go to contact the local tourist office they will be able to tell you

There is a list of the season times of many resorts in Switzerland at Bergfex. (They also have similiar lists for Austria, Italy and Germany).

As far as I understand these are "full opening" times -- i.e. some resorts may be partially open (only some lifts, or only on weekends, etc.) some time before that. And based on the plans reported by the resorts ahead of time, so if weather progresses unexpectedly they may change, and eventually when deciding to go somewhere you should check with the resort first to make sure.

you can go to teh Ski Club of Great Britain website.
At teh end of the Northern Hemisphere ski season tehy publish a list of ski resort close dates but I can't find an equivelant opening dates list.

You can find out resort by resort (worldwide locations), the official opening dates (when all lifts and hotels should be open if there is sufficient snow).

But you have to go to them one by one.

For example here is the Resort Intro page for Arosa 28th November.

then just click on the resort drop down box for other resorts.
Also provides ofther info such as altitude, current snow conditions, cost of ski pass etc.

Flims/Laax will probably be the handiest to get to from Zurich. The only other reasonable option from Zurich is Gemstock (Andermatt). Its still really early in the season and the snow line from the snowfalls earlier in the week has been receding. Flims/Laax could open as much as 60km of pistes this weekend if the information I have found is correct.

I'm going to make my decision on skiing or biking tomorrow afternoon based on the weather forecasts. If I go skiing it will more then likely be Flims/Laax and more then likely on Saturday as the weather looks pretty bad for Sunday.

Andermatt is a bit quicker by public transport than Laax but not much.

Eire, where did you see the info about 60km pistes?? On Laax home page they only mention Vorab which means the two runs on the glacier that have been open since October....I think Andermatt has more runs open, therefore I opt for A´matt this Sat

Oh and for those headed for Wallis, Saas Fee glacier was very good last weekend! The longest run open was from 3500m down to 2500m. I can highly recommend.

On the Laax website they are saying that the cable car from Laax will open this weekend to take people up to Vorab (until now access has been via Flims). Their official early season opening is this weekend, and the Swiss tourism website claims that there are 60k of pistes which are ready with prepared (artificial) snow. That and the view from the webcams down around Crap Sogn Gion have me putting 2 and 2 together to get 6.

As for the travel... I've just realised that you are right it is a little shorter to get to Andermatt by public transport. I usually drive and am a little out of Zurich so I took that into account rather then the actual train times from Zurich HB. Sorry.

If I decide to ski then I am personally happy to go to either if there was a group of people going. I think Papa Goose might be interested in testing his skis out for the first time this season too.

Oki dok, sounds good! I will make my final decision on Friday, based on the latest weather forecast. But my destination is most likely Andermatt ´cause I have only been there once but many times in Laax Panamahat and another friend will most likely join me. So just lemme know and we can meet up there (or along the route). The more the merrier
