Thanks. | | | | | It's dead easy to find, if you are driving you basically follow the signs for the banhof, if taking the train exit the banhof and turn right, walk about 150m to the round about and the coop park is right there next to a petrol station.
The address is:
Cooppark,
Buelstrasse 15

I'm in the market for new all-rounders - I've been renting skis since I moved here (about 4 years), and figure I'm spending a tad too much money on that.
However, more important to me than the price is getting to try skis before I buy them. There's usually a couple dates where manufacturers get set up on the slopes and let you try a couple different pairs. Anyone have any idea when and where that sort of thing is happening this year?
Thanks much!

I think that it is probably more for freeride skis but they probably will have some all mountain skis in their selection. The first day actually includes an avalanche course and the second day is the day to test out all the different skis available. You can sign up for one or both days. I know one of the guides for this and the shop "ArenaSport" also comes with a good recommendation.

I second the recomendation for the Ochsner outlet in affoltern am Albis. I bought my son his frst ski outfit yesterday, got Spyder jacket & sallopets for CHF150 off recommended retail price. | Quote: | | | | | Also took a friend to the Ochsner Outlet in Affoltern a. We have visitor from the UK for a week over new year and they want to spen most of there time on the snow, so we want to rent kit for them for the week. I'm picking/dropping the folks up at ZH airport and heading back here. So any rec's for a good/reasonable priced place where they can get ski's, boots', poles and the all important helmet between ZH and Zug.

Thanks guys for the info.
If Hackster doesn't mind, please find out the street name of the Below Zero outlet and the other warehouse store (what is the name of it?). Thanks.

whassup. ponk ass kids? as i said i wanna see gstaad, saas fee and chamonix this yeah, if possible at least one out of that tripple white spots on my switzerland ski- once- in- your- lifetime- resorts- veston. i believe it must be done with a overnight stay, as all 3 arent a dayride away. would somebody be up for it? i can join in during weekdays or on a weekend between january and end of february. for sure i help planning accomodation, travel n stuff. i believe its a bit early in te day to fix it, but id like to know if more peeps might be interested to ride one of the above resorts this season?
i spoke to one fella the other day (3weeks ago) on the tram that he was in flims on the glacier. but when i look up flims, all is closed. how come? anyone been, anyone up for it to give it a go? weekdays preferred in november. is there any resort in day travel distance to zurich open by now?
cheers! let the madness commence!

As for the three resorts you mentioned to visit. Gstaad is really expensive and fairly overrated. All the areas are very spread out, but the town itself is quite nice. Saas-Fee has some really good riding, but is expensive. Might be some good offers in early December though. Chamonix is all about off piste, a guide is necessary if you don't know the area. I can recommend the guy we had when we were there. I'll look up his details if you want.

Personally I would recommend Saas-Fee over Gstaad. You have more possibilities of varied riding in a smaller area.
I was there twice for a week each time and really enjoyed the pistes. If I was to go back though I'd probably do it as an early season thing rather then in the main season though. I've been to Zermatt in early season and we managed to get a great chalet for a group of people for about 100CHF per person for the weekend. I reckon the same would be possible in Saas-Fee.
The guide we had in Chamonoix was a bloke by the name of Eric Gramond at this company. He managed to find us loads of untracked powder, was really professional.

Hi everyone
My wife and I just moved to Zurich from the D.C. area. I'm looking for your advice. We'd like to pack in as much skiing as our budget and dependency on public transit will allow this season. We have the boots and clothing, but have been renting our skis for years since we could only get out a week at a time in the states and figured it was better to get up-to-date skis every year and avoid the hassle of carrying them on a plane.
Here's my question. Would it be more economical to rent/lease skis here for the season or buy them? We're older skiers who are now more into cruising than anything too taxing, so we don't need performance models.
Thanks a lot in advance for your thoughts.

I just quickly scanned the Zermatt website and I couldn't see the info there any more which could mean either it is sold out, or I just didn't look hard enough.
But I think most of the big resorts have them, so basically pick your resort and look online. I just googled ski test switzerland and the first link was to this one in Saas-Fee. http://www.saas-fee.ch/en/page.cfm?c...cialsSF&id=238
Have fun!
Jo

Thanks a lot in advance for your thoughts. | | | | | You can rent 'VIP' ski's from Inter Sport for 590 chf's for the season and Ochsner for 449 chf's, and many smaller shops have ski rental both in and out of resort. Thing is you can buy very good ski's from Rossignol, Salomon, Head etc for that or less (see the above posts) in the sales. My ski's are out again this year with a different colour way, but the technology is exactly the same. If you rent for the season you'll still have to lug them around, so renting is always an option but I prefered to buy. Ochsner in Zug has mens Descente jacket down from 699 to 389, black or red.
As resorts are now starting to open up, and by popular demand, I've set up another ski social on the Thursday 26th Nov. The bar is happy for us to go back, and a pro' instructor is line up for people who haven't skied before or want lessons. This is the link: Ski social v2

well need a Papa Goose finder then when all have the same jacket.
yeah...i say have the first season on rented ones n see how you like it here, how much you are actually going in a season etc. think about that the best thing is that the season ends n starts again the same year=only 8.5months of pointless seasons like spring, summer and fall to overcome...
for me it was pretty valuable to buy all of my own gar an i dont find it hard to train travel with my board...
anyway: welcome to winters paradise... |

Also if you rent the gear for the season they usually give you the option of buying it all at the end for a discount.
I have Flow bindings for my board and have done for the last 5 years. I can't really remember what it felt like using strap bindings anymore (apart from the hassle of getting them on)
Has anyone used both recently and can give a fair appraisal of both systems.
Thinking of getting a new board and wondering if I should go back to straps at the same time.
