Can anyone recommend a good place for beginner(ish) this weekend?
I have family coming over and while they have skied/boarded before they don't get on the snow very often. Far more comfortable on blue runs than red.
Boarder doesn't like tow lifts which seems to rule out the 'easier' resorts I knew of (Sorenberg, Klewenalp).
Ideally also needs to be somewhere accessible by public transport (from Luzern).
Does anything fit those requirements?

Bumpety bump... Flums, I would love to but unfortunately I am still treating my flu and do not wanna tease it when it subsides. I would give it a chance on Sunday though and look for slopes with good fresh snow but not crust. What does advanced high tech meteo say about location 2-3 hours from Zurich? Me think Andermatt but everywhere it shows plus temps and sun.
Should there be more folks interested, I will post mini-event again for Sunday |

Anybody familiar with a store that offers ski boot fitting services? I've got a pressure point on my right ankle that I want resolved and came across this place on the web:
ZUMGLÜCK Schuhkomfort AG http://www.zumglueck.ch/
Anybody with experience or another recommendation is much appreciated.
thanks!

What were the crowds like weejeem, as that's the thing that puts me off the most at Flums over the weekend?
I was at Lenzerheide for the 1st time on Friday and that was a great day. I really liked the place, the weather was great, the piste's very good, and with a little Leprachaun magic popped my black cherry
It would be a great place for a snowhound day to finish the season, as we must be getting close? | Quote: | | | | | Anybody familiar with a store that offers ski boot fitting services? I've got a pressure point on my right ankle that I want resolved and came across this place on the web:

thanks! | | | | | I thought you had the Salomon boots that have the liners that can be heated and the you put them on and they mould to your feet, and the adjustable buckle positioning on the shell, which I thought that was included in the price?

Heidi Ho
A late report from St. Anton over last weekend / week (i.e. 14 - 17 March). Was there for a so called conference, which in reality was more a p*ss up with 15 other blokes. Fab time... Although weather was so and so.. Sunday was great skiing. During Monday and Tuesday we go approx half a meter of fresh snow, so most slopes were left unprepared until Tuesday night. So nice and challenging. Wednesday was a blue ski, fab snow day !!!!!
other than that, I can safely say that St. Anton has not changed a lot in the four years I had not been there. Mooserwirt, Picadelly, Funky Chicken were all still the same. They even still had the same guy (Gunnar) playing the afterski tunes at the postkeller.

Picture is from Saturday - I don't think you could have described it
as anything other than quiet. Snow was OK, sunshine was good
On Sunday (possibly due to the bad forecast), it was E-M-P-T-Y
ZüriTim and I stopped quite often and played "Is there anyone else on our
mountain?". Most of the time there wasn't - we had the entire mountain
to ourselves .
Snow was good, and despite the overcast & occasional flurry, we fitted a
lot into the day - well worth fighting through the a.m. pain barrier for. | Quote: | | | | | I was at Lenzerheide for the 1st time on Friday and that was a great day. I really liked the place, the weather was great, the piste's very good, and with a little Leprachaun magic popped my black cherry

As for end of season closing day, I think it will all come down to how long
this spring-like weather is going to persist - I guess we could just name a
day, and pick the best-bet location a day or two before. Any other takers?

They were strangely quiet in the store on those options, maybe I should check it out

Someone else I know has a pair and he was told the same thing about the heat moulding and shell adjustment, but he never needed the fitting. Now the Ochsner store in Zug has got rid of the machine to heat the insoles as they weren't selling to many pairs... hence they are at 50 % off just now in the Outlet store in Affoltern a. A.

My report from St. Anton,
Decided to head down to St. Anton for my birthday. Let me say it did not disappoint. In my 34 years of skiing, this was the absolute best skiing experience of my life.
First day was spent on the slopes with a certain Australian lady, and let me just thank her again for being a great host. Thankfully I was able to keep up to her, even though she nearly broke me in the Apres-Ski.
Apres-Ski Day 1
Day 2 was by far the best ski experience of my life off-piste in the Alps with a guide for the first time. While I was a little concerned with the slack safety briefings, the guide was more than capable and I did not feel nervous once through the day.
Day started with a 150 meter climb over the back of the mountain. After lunch, we took the gondola to the lookout tower at top of the mountain, hoped over the back, descended a fairly steep pitch (guide said about 34 degrees, but it did not seem that steep to me) and found some untracked powder pockets. The solitude was amazing. Having skied the crowded slopes, I can see why going out of bounds is so popular. And make no doubt, the terrain in St. Anton offers lots of great opportunities to do so!
hike to start the day
fresh powder!
Day 3 was spend back on the slopes with PhilMCR and some new friends. Even the rain on day 4 could not dampen my weekend!
Keep in mind:
There is only 1 run from the gondola at the top - truth be told it is not worth the wait. I would get off the first gondola and find other ways to the top
Apres-Ski is best in the world. If you want a more casual spot, stick the right side towards after the Moose, and you will happen upon a relaxed spot with live music called the Underground
If you stay on the hill side of the village, you can probably cut off the hill rather than going to the bottom and walking back up
The Rendl has some great terrain on wide open slopes - not to be missed!

Hello
I am thinking of going skiing for the last time this winter on Sunday, ideally around Zurich. Does anyone knows if there will still be good snow or it has melted already?!? Any advise on which resort to go for, only tried Flumsberg so keen for a change!
Looking forward to suggestions.

The snow was good at Davos last weekend until about 14.00 - low down it's going to be pretty grim TBH
On the subject of off piste skiing .... are there instuctors out there for off piste boarding ??
For next year ... not this.
I can do the powder at the edge of pistes but have never ventured much from the thronging masses ... and I feel the need
