| | | English Pilates Class in Zurich?
Heya,
I'm looking for Beiginners' Pilates classes taught in English around the Wiedikon area. I'm also open to receiving suggestions for classes held not too far off from the area. If anyone knows a good class ( whether in group or individual) , please feel free to PM me with suggestions.
Thanks and cheers!

If you are willing to go to Enge, try Pilateszone. Some advanced lessons are in English, so just ask about beginner courses. www.pilateszone.ch |

I can very highly recommend Martha: http://www.marthas-studio.ch/html/kontakt.htm. She does individual or pair training and it is the real thing. She's Canadian, I think, and has all the equipment. If I lived in Zürich, I would still be taking lessons with her. Her place is just past Enge. I was pretty disappointed with some other classes I took in Zürich; the teachers didn't have much experience and/or knowledge. Martha doesn't let you get away with anything and puts absolute focus on correct form and position (which is everything in Pilates). Really, I can't say enough good things about her.

Since I've been going there I've had no issues with my previously troublesome bad knee, my posture is much improved, my tummy flatter, I'm more toned and I feel great
She is a hard task master but well worth it. She spends time explaining how to do the excercises correctly, pays attention to detail and ensures that you are doing things properly thus avoiding damage which can be caused be doing the exercises wrong. As she has all the equipment you also get a varied workout unlike group sessions at some of the larger gyms which only focus on matwork and where you may not get the instructors full attention.
Also as she is multilingual, she can do classes in English, German or French.

I was going to try Martha's at one point, but I didn't follow up for some reason. In general, the price for individual lessons is very high (I used to do it back in the states, though), but I thought I would give Pilateszone a try for a mat class as a colleague recommended it. I was more than pleasantly surprised as I thought mat classes were pretty weak at gyms, etc. Jasmin is very hands-on and well trained in the methods...a bit I actually need to come up to speed with the others. But even after 4 lessons I see a noticeable difference -- it's actually harder than the individual lessons I used to take!

I had a wonderful trainer back in California so I really wanted to continue when I moved to Switzerland.
I then tried out a couple different trainers in Zürich but was very disappointed until I found Martha. She's a great trainer and will ensure every session is tailored to my body condition at the time (I have been having back problems on and off, and found the training really helped).
Compared to the other studios I have visited in Zürich, I think her rate is probably among the lower (1,500 CHF for 20-private session Abo). I was paying another trainer at a whopping 150 CHF per session and she was not even half as good!
On that note... I am always on the lookout for a duet training partner. If anyone is interested to pair up please let me know! |

It'd be a good way to get back into pilates or rather make sure what I'm doing at home is correct. PM me if you would like to talk about it further.

I would be intersted in duo or small group mat lessons starting as soon as I am back from Christmas holidays.

I will be traveling out of the country for about 6 weeks from mid-Feb to end of March but after that am back on regular training schedule again.
Happy holidays everyone!

Since the cost of pilates classes is quite high in Zurich compared to other cities in Europe or the US, i've decided to buy a nice selection of pilates DVDs at all levels from Amazon US and they were great: huge selection of effective exerices. it's like having a personal pilates instructor at home for a fraction of the price.

I give Pilates lessons in Zollikon and Erlenbach and both studios are easily accessible from central Zurich. I'm doing a Pilates instructor training programme in the Kaya Studio, which someone recommended earlier. Until I certify I charge half of the usual Zurich rates. I teach privates, duos and groups.
Erlenbach is really easy to get to, it's only 15 min by train from HB and the studio is just across the road from the station.
More details: Pilates lessons in Zurich , or PM me.
